Good little race. Shame about Elliott doing what he's done before.
Also I hope they don't change the track because there was a bit of mud.

That was a damn fun race. Too bad Chase completely overdrove that final corner.

Where was he meant to go there? Was alongside Blaney, any more to the right and he would have hit the sausage kerb

Everything is fucking dumb. There’s just never gonna be a close finish that doesn’t involve someone being an asswipe.

He was never going to make that corner at a reasonable speed.

They're gonna milk the shit out of it aren't they? Like the big one and Newmans crash last year.

Look at the replay and the 9's entry relative to the 12, 9 entered fine. 12's brakes were dead and he knew if 9 got alongside it was over.

Both drivers choked.

Well, more so Elliot (because it's clear that something was wrong with Blaney's car, you can tell by how it was wavering in the final couple of laps), but yes, Elliot could have made that pass clean.

The real issue here, however, is the chicane. It's not an overtaking spot because the kerbs prevent the drivers from cutting it (like how it was designed to do), thus making it one-line. Put the two and one together and you get what happened on the final lap.

Yay :yuk:

Saturday and Sunday look very wet

I know it's no comfort to the viewers who don't have a very open schedule, but I guess the upside for the teams is that not only do they not have to drive across the country for the second race, they don't even have to leave the track for the second race this year.

Did the dirt/mud on the backstretch really cause issues for the drivers? Maybe because I just watch touring cars which eat up dirt, dust and anything else with no issues, I just find it hard to believe that some mud patch made drivers instantly lose all their driving talent. Or is it more due to the shitty car and similar to how the car gets destroyed if it goes over any grass?

Touring cars are usually front wheel drive and have around 300 HP power. I believe the Cup cars still run the old 900+ HP unrestricted engine package for road courses, so that's a lot of wheelspin in 2nd and 3rd gear which can certainly get out of hand if you throw dirt into the mix.

The "high" power package that Cup runs now is about 700hp I believe. The high downforce/low power package is about 550hp.

But yeah, you could see the cars all over the place coming through that dirt. I wonder what made it such an issue last night, because I don't recall it being a factor at all when they ran there last summer.

Wallace finished practice on top at 199.747 mph. He was running in a tight formation with the Gibbs cars, all of whom complete the top 5.
