I always thought starting your season with Daytona and getting any potential new fans hooked on a week of RP racing then wandering over to Fontana or something like that the next week to show them the extreme other end of the boredom scale was some bizarre scheduling from NASCAR.

At least if they still went to Rockingham there was a chance that the casual fans might still get a flip in with their wonky walls! :p

(The racing would be ten times better at Rockingham too, but oh well, NASCAR knows best.... )

NASCAR generally hypes the shit out of every race... I can understand the need to do that, but it makes the races feel underwhelming sometimes. I know we have to have boring races along with the really good ones, but I don't mind some excitement each week.

I agree they present all the races with too much similarity and too much hype, and in the end they become the same. It extends to the lower levels too, I just don't see the need for pre-race shows for every single Nationwide race and Truck race. They could just start a few minutes before the race detailing the neccessary developments then tell us the rest while we're watching the race itself.

But, I guess they have to justify paying all these superfluous hosts somehow.

That's why you see many of us longing for the days when ESPN would go on air about ten minutes before the green flag dropped.

About that, I downloaded the last NWS race, without pre-race, and those 10-15 minutes I saw before the green flag, were great, they talked about some of the "stories", who got the pole and stuff, and it was really fine. There wasn't really a need for a 1 hour show before that.

There is the option to just tune in 10 mins before the green flag time. I don't think I've ever watched more than 10 minutes before a NASCAR race start.

Yeah, our coverage also joins shortly before the race, but after watching ESPN's coverage, it makes me wonder what did they showed and talked about for the entire hour. I knew everything I needed to about the race, after that 10 minutes.

The TV networks are contractually bound to show one hour of pre-race, so they aren't given the choice.

It's still shit, tho.

I typically try to avoid watching any prerace shows altogether. All that matters to me is the race ahead. Besides, if you don't like watching prerace shows, there's definitely other stuff to watch on TV before the green flag drops.

Or the iRacing Afterburn IndyCar series on Glacier TV :P It finishes normally 5 minutes before invocation etc

So I'm guessing FOX hast taken the stance of "We'll go side-by-side when we fucking feel like it".

It's a mild inconvenience, but it should be brought up. IMO, I feel like you have three options with side-by-side coverage:

1) Run the whole race side-by-side (like TNT)
2) Actually announce a set point in the broadcast (ex: halfway) when you'll use side-by-side coverage (like ESPN)
3) Don't bother with it at all

Other than the plate tracks, this seems kind of a lame duck season while we wait for the new car.

Plate races have been the worst this year, imo. They are boring without the tandoms.

The former I can live without. The latter should come sooner than later.

Don't you just love NASCAR media?

"This is the first time since Earnhardt's death in 2001 that a No. 3 car is being regularly run in NASCAR." - USA Today

"No one had driven the No. 3 car since Dale Earnhardt's death on the track at the 2001 Daytona 500." - ESPN/AP

Welcome to one page ago.

Still, between that and wishing that IndyCar needs a new leader and a new car, fuck Bruton.

Sounds like an idea Apu Nahasapeemapetilon would suggest to sell a rotten product.
