Don't forget, Folds of Honor wants your money too.

This year's ruling is just a consequence of what happened at dega last year. ( As always Nascar finds the best solution to solve a problem...)

The car is a turd, and the rules package is the polish.

That was a great race when it comes to actual racing. No arguing that.

Newman's wreck would have ended the race any time before 2004.

Translation: Jimmie would have won anyway.

how uh... How do we get a second GWC? Or is that gone? Is this real life?

They have to crash before the leader reaches the blue line on the restart.
IIRC, didn't they say this new rule was made at the request of the drivers?

That was a good race. It was a breath of fresh air. Love seeing drivers work.

Yes the new overtime rules was the idea of the drivers and I'm ok with it. Better than something put in place by TV.

From the track, I thoroughly enjoyed that race. Seems like there was something going on all race, and Jimmie won the way you're supposed to - by outsmarting everyone. Great stuff, great track. 8/10.

For all those bitching about the limit on GWCs, think about the usual outcome every time there were 3 GWCs in the past. They would either get it right the first time if it was a generally clean race, or they would pile them up every time and finish under yellow anyway, only with 3 times the amount of wrecked cars.

At least this rule reduces the damage bill, and hopefully over time it will teach drivers that there's nothing to gain by driving over your head on the last restart if the next wreck freezes positions anyway.

So agree. I think this was a great move. Essentially NASCAR said, don't be dicks

And how refreshing was it to see a race unfold naturally? Yeah there was overtime but it was because tire was key and one car pushing it. I loved NASCAR was not throwing a bogus caution. This is what the series needs.

I'm actually amazed Newman's tire was the only one that really failed. Everyone was riding their tires to the cords. I figured there would have been more tire failures today.

As much as i agree with everyone and hope this is a sign for things to come in NASCAR, I've noticed there's a lot of "better go OTT saying how great a race that was in the hope NASCAR hears us and doesn't change things back based on us not being positive enough!"

Not so much here, but most social media outlets I've noticed this tendency.

Race was good, but even if they keep the best package available, not every race will be 10/10

Lets hope NASCAR has the patience to put these rules to the test over a good many races and not make short term rash decisions.

thought it was a good race from what I watched of it today. Hopefully these band-aid fixes can last for a few more races before the teams start figuring out more on how to gain the downforce back.

I think next week will be a better example of the package for the rest of the season, as Atlanta is pretty good on its own just due to the tire falloff.

The thing I'm sure no one would have said years ago, I can't wait for Fontana.

Post subject:  Re: NASCAR @ Atlanta

The problem was Fontana was the only track the high downforce package actually worked at, now with this medium downforce package the racing could go back to being as shit as it was originally there. I'll give it till Charlotte before deciding, if Charlotte produces a good race, then things might finally be going in the right direction.

With any luck, NASCAR's template type rules should prevent things getting silly in the aero department.
