The ARCA Super Speedway races last year were the best racing the series had ever had on those tracks. Now that all the cars will have the 396 motor I expect it to be much more of the same.

This is also their first plate race with the composite bodies, right? Those bodies have a very CoT feel about them so, if they also end up suffering from the 2CT performance quirk...plz prey.

I believe they're still racing the steel bodies for Daytona, unless I'm mistaken. Not sure about Dega though.

Steel bodies at Daytona and Talladega this year. Composite bodies in 2018.

I wonder what the composite body and the 396 motor does to cost. I hope it brings it down to where more guys can participate.

There are pros and cons to low equipment costs. The major con: ARCA drivers.

What's the difference on this new versus the old Arca Daytona engine?

It's essentially ARCA offering a cost-effective standardized engine to the teams that want to use it.

Here's a couple pro articles about it (cheaper, more equal competition)

http://www.arcaracing.com/articles/1997 ... e-in-years

And a con article about it (less competition on the technical side, gets ride of some jobs in the industry, and Ford people don't like using Chevy engines)

All I know is if they used them for Talladega, then it's a good thing for racing.

Composite body only costs about $14,000 after everything is said and done, I imagine a steel body, in addition to being hard to find these days, is more after you take it to the wind tunnel and do all the other tweaks. With the composite, you can remove a damaged piece and put a new one in its place and pretty much be done with it. I think the whole thing weighs about 180 lbs after being put together. Ilmor leases run about $50,000 for an engine, I think teams were paying a lot more (those that could afford it) leasing stuff from Cup teams for the big races. You might actually see more people building their own cars or at least buying one, instead of going the driver development route like in the past. I know James Hylton's team has a composite this year, buying up the old yellow #1 car that ran some of the short track races the last two years.

FansChoice will be streaming all of the races at New Smyrna again this year (only exception is the races this Sunday, which features the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and Pavement Sprint Cars)

Great! So now all year we'll get to hear the commentators talk about how... "The front two cars are in the Geico Restart Zone... And the American Ethanol Green Flag is out! Next time around, they will get the ONE TO GO sponsored by Credit One Bank! Ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh CRASH! That brings out the ServiceMaster Clean Caution flag!"

I am so excited. I can barely hold my enthusiasm.

I'm not excited because I haven't entered the RED BULL POWERED Fan Excitement Zone yet.

Death to whatever marketing executive went, "we could sponsor a team...OORRR we could sponsor a common part of the race and make sure we get a mention during televised coverage".

To be fair, Geico sponsors the 13 car as well.

You could question that as well.

From a marketing standpoint sponsoring the "Restart Zone" is better than a car. You'll see it on TV all the time, not just during restarts, so it puts the name in front of the eyes of everyone far more.

True. Not sure I'm putting my money behind Ty Dillon.
