I know it's early but that rear spoiler is way too tall for my liking.

Dan - did you find other pictures of all that stuff or are you commenting on the articles that describe it? Because...none of that rear end stuff is visible in Dillon's video clip.

Same for me.

I've seen lots of stuff linked on Reddit.

Personally speaking I’m really excited to see the Pontiac Sunfire back in NASCAR competition.

I know it's a common Nascar body, but I don't hate the direction they're going in. Stepped splitter, side skirts off the ground, Chase Briscoe hinted at a return to dual exhaust in the Reddit thread, so we might get that old school superspeedway sound again. The greenhouse looks much more like a coupe now too.

Yeah, aesthetics-wise, that actually looks pretty dope. Kind of integrating some sports car things into the traditional NASCAR stuff, so it'll take some getting used to, but the car does actually look proportional again. The Gen 5 and Gen 6 noses looked too short and the rear of the car too long, and the greenhouse never really seemed to match the rest of the car. This fixes all those problems.

Those wheels are something else.

They should just commit to going full IROC.

They need to go cold turkey with their aero addiction and get rid of the splitter and skirts and go back to soft springs with 8" ride height etc. I've been watching some old races on YouTube and yeah the cars may be slower, but they look so much more spectacular than these shitboxes glued to the road.

Just speaking generally, the speed itself isn't really the issue. The goal should be to create the largest reasonable/safe disparity in straightaway and cornering speeds. Suddenly, that slow "look" of the corner speeds looks a lot more exciting and captivating when the drivers have to put more work into navigating the difference.

Exactly what I was hoping to see. A front end that wasn't flush with the ground and suspension that physically prevented the car from dropping below a certain ride height under load. Cars looked way more spectacular when the car moved around over bumps and nose dropped under deceleration, than they do when they're flush with the ground all the time.

Anyway, I actually didn't notice that the sideskirts ended higher than the front end / splitter on this design. That's good at least; it will hopefully help the problem of sideforce loss in side-by-side situations.

Would've been nice if the rear quarter-panel would've been less tall, like the Gen-4 cars, so there's less sideforce in the rear.

the rear quarterpanel needs to be raised to the middle of the tyre

I just hate that they are insisting on this low HP / stupid high downforce package stuff. That and the comp. yellow crap have mostly ruined my enjoyment that I had of watching any of the top 3 level series.

I hope they revert course on the package & format, but I'm not feeling too confident.

Feel for all of the people that will be laid off given the plans for a spec chassis too

Interested to see how much of the NASCAR/V8 Supercar shared package rumors comes ahead. At the very least it seems like alot of smoke to that fire, as they've had alot of meetings & the new regs appear to go the same direction on most fronts (only exception being the aero package as they are trying to cut DF)

I know the 2020 rules are still going to be that way, but is that also the stated direction for the new 2021 package?

Author:  Dan Belcher [ Fri Oct 11, 2019 3:17 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Random NASCAR Discussion

Basically, yes. They've already said the 2022/2023 engine package is going to be targeted at 550hp to entice more manufacturer interest. And they haven't officially confirmed 100% they're going for high downforce, but all signs point toward it. Just look at the massive splitter/spoiler/diffuser on the new test mule car.

Ugh, disappointing but I shouldn't be surprised. 21st century NASCAR is nothing if not reliably dumb as all fuck.

And as expected, it appears NASCAR will use their sister series IMSA & their DPi 2.0 regulations as a test bed for hybrid powertrains for the Cup cars, could be as early as 2021 but 2024 is more likely

Another argument for less downforce and higher straightaway speeds: decelerating into corners creates more opportunity to harvest energy for a hybrid system.

By the time NASCAR finally get around to jumping on the hybrid bandwagon hopefully the fad will have died a slow death.

NASCAR will stop the RaceView service after 2019, unclear what will replace it.

It is rumored that FansChoice.TV will become a subscription service next year as well

Well they wonna tighten things up if they do cos presently FansChoice is looser than a bad Indian curry.

In other news JR says they should scrap the yellow line rule and let the drivers police themselves, thoughts?
