The rapid growth of numbers of drivers in the early twenties on cup level makes sure we'll get to see less and less drivers in their late 40s or even 50s competing. Not saying its a bad thing but wouldnt mind seeing someone pull a mr September nowadays as well.

Jimmie is in to his 40s and we all I know it'll be his call to step away. I can see him going past 45.

I think if Jimmie wins #8 he'll step aside. He'd have absolutely nothing left for him. No one will touch 8 titles. I'm sure they said the same thing about Petty's 7 back in the day too but with the current knock out system I just can't see it.

What if he (or someone else) reaches a major milestone but...still wants to race for the joy of it?

I know that's a weird thing to say now, when the cars are garbage. But it's still weird that nobody seems to talk about anything other than drivers quitting because they're at the "right age" or have nothing left to accomplish/prove.

It's entirely possible. As long as Jimmie and Company are still having fun I say go race.

In the context of the conversation I could understand it if he stepped aside though, which is all I was really saying. I think some of it too is that history is littered with guys who stayed too long because they felt like they still had something in the tank or just couldn't step away from the sport to do something else. I don't think that's the case here with Jimmie as Mr. Hendrick surely will support him in any endeavor he has beyond racing if he can.

It's a hard call from a fans perspective. Watching these races it's hard to imagine anyone out there having fun but it's a whole different story if you're in the garage.

That is cool to see one of our own getting into a big series. Congrats man if you see this, regardless of what happens you've made it further then probably anyone else amongst the thousand-plus people who've been on this forum.

Dear Zippy,

This is the opportunity of a lifetime you've been working on your entire career. That being said, you must honor a bunch of strangers from the internet by making sure to oil down the racing line and causing the maximum percentage of airbornz.

Signed,

Everyone that Posted in any Daytona Speedweek threads.

Hey that's me. :p

You guys rock! Actually this place and the old TBK was how I really got into racing in the first place, as well as the first place I had to talk to friends about racing instead of driving my parents up a wall.

That being said; airbornezzzzz potential is fairly low at Phoenix sooo. I'll have to wait until Homestead.

I'll make sure to ask Cole Whitt how to fuck up a championship battle more than he did. :whistling:

In all seriousness, thank you guys for all the support over the years, I hope I can make this place proud! I'll have a TBK logo on the truck at Homestead. :metal:

It's funny how you very much revealed yourself on reddit and the Josh Wise/Matt Dibenedetto circle jerk didn't pick up on it.

Funny story, back when I was racing late models Norm had his truck and trailer parked at one of the shops in the Mooresville Dragway loop with the race truck unloaded. He was underneath it on a roller working on something and had fallen asleep. One of the guys at the shop came out and thought he had died.

I think we will be faster than him this weekend though. :p If not I need to find another career.

Thank you guys!
