The 1996 spring race at Atlanta. I wonder how Jeff Burton (who entered that race 2nd in points but DNQed) would have fared if he had bought out one of the lower-tier Ford rides in the race...

I'm definitely not the only one that misses North Wilkesboro.

I just watched some of the race after Dale died, Rockingham. Although it was a near 200 lap run, there was always something going on.

Nowadays I get bored after 15 laps.

Who would have thought it went green the entire way.

Watching that era makes me nostalgic for those days (was a few weeks away from graduating from high school), but hotdamn, that old Subway logo does it too. haha

Great racing indeed.

The noise those cars made just screamed "definitive restrictor plate racing" for my generation.

I agree. I LOVED the sound of the cars in the early 2000's at plate tracks. I especially love the way they sounded at the finished of the 2001 EA Sports 500. Idk if it was the TNT/NBC mics that helped but it sounded so cool.

I think it must have been just the technology of the day, but it was like flipping a switch in 2000 and 2001 in terms of getting the sound just right. That crazy, echo-ey roar I'd hear through the woods whenever I would approach Pocono when cars were on track would give me goosebumps, and it's such a unique sound. They ended up capturing it perfectly for a while...

I think it was 2007-ish that I started hearing differences in the way the cars sounded, and I don't think it was the cars themselves (because they still sounded the same at the track) - it was the broadcasts fkin' it up. :(

This looks like it may be interesting. Looks like we may get to see some new footage, like Curtis Turner flipping at Atlanta in 1967 (a short snippet is shown here at 0:30 or so).

I can't imagine what he had to go through all those years, also I've read about 3 popular drivers at least who liked giving him hard times.
