That would be interesting to say the least. Main thing I could see being a problem is pit exit though.

The pit exit is odd, but what is odd is even light weight open wheel cars have to brake before the S/F line....

True and I think turn 2 is even banked. They redid the road course a few years ago. My problem is you probably won't see any passing on the oval which they basicall use 98% of.

Yes you would, getting power down coming back onto it, etc.

Have it cut to the inside of that wall thats on the inside of the corner and dump out after it ends.

What about all the infield camping, etc.? Surely, that would cost the track money since the fans normally use the road course area during NASCAR weekends?

Track has plenty of camping area outside of the track that is now expanded due to the loss of the souvenir trailers. That and the far side grounds heading towards 85 have been bare the last few years.

I applaud CMS. They see the demand for another road course and NASCARS inability to add, so they basically said fuck it, we will change our speedway race into a road course. And be like Chase road course bitches.

My brother lives 30 mins away, is fly to see it. I saw the 2006 IROC race at at Daytona on the RC in person and it was fun.

There's a Twitter video on this link that shows the 47 testing and using another part of the course not shown in track layouts...

http://nascar.nbcsports.com/2017/01/19/aj-allmendinger-part-of-nascar-data-test-on-charlotte-motor-speedway-road-course/

The new part eases the transition for a car from road course to speedway.

I like the idea...don't get me wrong. But have you seen the difference in price between infield and outfield camping prices? They're just going to miss out on that?

I'm sure the attraction to the event will outweigh the few camping spots they lose. CMS hasn't been the infield needy place. Been there a bunch, the grounds outside are best.

Way to give a topic to talk about on this tread.

This would be epic!!!!

Post subject:  Re: Random NASCAR Discussion

really hope they do this with most tracks having roval courses this could open a lot of doors especially with a lot of tracks having 2 dates also i think a lot of fans would like to see more road racing in NASCAR granted this is a watered down version of what people want But NASCAR is reluctant to add road races due to lack of seating and other minor reasons could be a good compromise

Man, if they run the Charlotte roval, they'll need to move the S/F line. No one is gonna lift on a flyer Q lap or coming to the checkers if it's close, and to navigate T1 you'd need to be braking well before the current S/F location...they're gonna pile into something if they don't move it.

Uhm, that wall before turning back up into the oval portion...

Post subject:  Re: Random NASCAR Discussion

They'll probably change both transitions and pit entry, and these can be done very quickly.

Also, having a Roval is better than no road-courses adicitons at all, we may have Road America later.... Or Montreal. And this Charlotte roval is fun, that turn 1 will be something.

Post subject:  Re: Random NASCAR Discussion

Yeah from the videos I've seen, the S/F is going to be an issue. I would say move it to just off T4.

Post subject:  Re: Random NASCAR Discussion

I can see a SAFER barrier from the current oval wall down to the pit wall on the outside of T1 as well, curving like the final corner at WGI to keep cars from ending up hitting the cars coming back onto the track if one loses control. It'll have a definite street circuit style to it through T1 and 2.

Well, seeing as there's no reason to make T1 after a qualy lap or checkered flag...who cares?

Just carry on into the rest of the fronstretch and slow down there.

If it's a road course, they'll have group qualifying.

Personally, I'd like to see them finish the season where they start. I think a 400 mile endurance race on the full Daytona Road Course would fit the bill nicely.
