It's about time someone other than Kenseth showed interest in metal.

Jerry Punch is calling the Murray State game on ESPNU and, honest to god, he has used some sort of derivative form of describing a player "sailing by" in the lane at least 3 times.

Oh boy...

http://www.nascar.com/en_us/news-media/ ... -test.html

Quote:
"I think all of the work that's been done, and the two races that we raced last year … was in a positive direction," Busch, driver of the No. 41 Chevrolet for Stewart-Haas Racing, said. "I believe the direction of lower downforce is better, but I'd like to see us take another chunk of downforce away come July. Because with the technology that the teams have, we'll be right back to where we are now with the downforce decrease because we're able to increase it with wind tunnel time and simulation models."

Speeds during the test were faster than anticipated, Johnson said. The six-time series champion took part in a similar test last season at Kansas Speedway and said tires used for that test had more falloff, slowing lap speeds during the course of a run. That wasn't the case at Las Vegas.

"With these cool conditions and the surface here being so good still, it's been tough to create the falloff that we're looking for," the Hendrick Motorsports driver said. "Bottom line is we're just fast. We're really fast.

"When we took downforce off the car, they've lowered the gear ratio, a lot of things to kind of slow the cars down and we're every bit as fast if not faster than (with) the combination they had last year.

1. Get rid of the splitter
2. Raise the side
3. Get rid of the shark fin
4. Get rid of the tapered spacer
5. Free up the gear rule, let them use whatever 3rd gear they want
6. Have tyre fall off like iRacing has

Kurt is right. They took off an INSANE amount of downforce. Put the teams in a box and they will figure out how to work within it. The reason IROC was so good is that the technology never really changed, and there wasn't any crazy wind tunnel testing or engineers working on them 24/7. I guess the only way to stop that from happening would be to limit the technology teams can use. Good luck with that.

I still don't understand why they didn't just use the same package that worked though...

Unfortunately, like everything, they will keep having to make adjustments as teams figure things out. It's always been that way and it always will be. This will never be IROC.

By doing that NASCAR would be admitting they were wrong and everybody else was right, by running a slightly different package they avoid that in their own eyes and potentially leave the door open, and if by July we're all complaining 'this package is crap' (highly likely if mid corner speeds don't decrease), then they can turn round and say 'hey we tried it your way and that hasn't fixed anything so back to high downforce next week'.

Most people generally have no idea how much dowforce and 8 inch wide foil produces, no do they care, but for NASCAR it could be the difference between them having egg on their face and not.

I'll put my tin foil hat back in the cupboard now, honest.....

Still kinda wonder who is gonna sponsor NASCAR in 2017, or if this is their Victory Tour.

Sight unseen, I don't mind Tony getting in someone's face who has lost their sense of reality and think that just because they're a fan that they are protected by some magical barrier from the celebrities they taunt. Like I totally didn't mind Ron Artest going into the stands and laying the dude out that threw a beverage on him, if only he had gotten to the right one.

If this isn't applicable to the video, disregard everything I said. For some reason my laptop has gone all wonky and isn't cooperating with social media outlets. Maybe it's finally had enough of this shit too

Artest actually had something thrown at him. Apparently this guy just flipped him off. Hardly warrants a confrontation.

What reason does this total stranger have to flip off someone he doesn't even know? I hate celebrities, I hate gabby social media, but even worse are the people that hide within "strength in numbers" and harass celebrities and think that it's okay because they get it all of the time and they won't be singled-out. I mean, there are a lot of athletes I hate, but if I see Carl Edwards or Joakim Noah out at a restaurant or some kind of social gathering, I'm not going to go up to them and say the things I say about them here or to other people to their face, and I fucking guarantee no one here would, either. Maybe they really are great guys, I have no idea. It's fucking disrespectful, and I hope Tony brought this dude down a few notches.

It's just, looking at the history of stars going after fans, it never looks good. This isn't cute Waltrip challenging fans to meet him in the parking lot or Reggie Miller vs. Spike Lee. This is Ryan Leaf yelling at people during training camp or Albert Belle beaning that heckler with a baseball for calling him Joey.

Flipping off Tony Stewart is about the most normal and understandable way for a human to react to his presence IMO.
