FOX moves Talladega qualifying to FOX: NASCAR ramped up its pre-race excitement level for the 2014 season, making qualifying more relevant and much more entertaining by introducing a highly competitive "knockout" system, beginning with 43-plus race cars on the track at the same time at tracks 1.25 miles or longer. NASCAR on FOX, which covers the first 13 NASCAR Sprint Cups Series of the season, is showing its enthusiasm for the new system, moving the (Saturday) May 3 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying at unpredictable Talladega Superspeedway from FOX Sports 2 to FOX, marking the first time a non-Daytona qualifying session has aired on FOX. "This move is a direct result of the double-digit ratings gains NASCAR's new knockout qualifying format is delivering every weekend," said Bill Wanger, EVP of Programming, Research & Content Strategy. "We are thrilled to be able to highlight this new format on FOX, and what more exciting place to do that than Talladega Superspeedway." The new qualifying system, which moves away from single-car qualifying and is supported by double-digit, year-to-year ratings growth, allows for all cars to qualify collectively for up to 25 minutes, with the top 24 based on fastest laps advancing for a subsequent 10-minute session. The top 12 from that group advance to the final, five-minute round. The 90-minute Talladega qualifying session begins on FOX on Saturday, May 3 at 1:30 pm/et(FOX).

It probably won't be live tho so stay off the internet when watching.

Mike Joy said as much on Twitter. It will start live, then progressively start delaying during ad breaks, kind of like it has all season.

For instance, when the TV coverage goes to commercial and the clock during the round says 19:33 or whatever on the ticker, when it comes back from commercial, the clock will still show 19:33.

I can't wait for all these Dogecoin idiots to end up highly disappointed when Wise either gets caught up in the big one early, or finishes 26th a lap down and only mentioned once during the broadcast.

A new feature for 2014: Big ones on Saturday as well as Sunday. I hope NASCAR switches Cup qualifying to Saturday now instead of Fridays. Now it's much more watchable it doesn't make sense holding it on a day when most people are at work.

Here is how Truck Series Rookie, Tyler Reddick's night ended up last night. Reddick was racing his open cart in a race in Salisbury, NC last night. During a heat race, he was trying to pass a car on the outside when the car he was trying to pass broke and they collided and Reddick's car ended up in a tree. Reddick was uninjured but it took them 30 minutes to get Reddick's car out of the tree.

I've had to sit through one of the biggest races of the year start live and finish 40 minutes behind the actual finish a few years ago...

Sounds like Swan Racing is about to bite the bullet already. Number of employees laid off, and no sponsors to be found. Tough start to the year was too much for this little team.
