The only thing this system truly places emphasis on is luck and happenstance. There is just and endless list of reasons this system sucks horribly.

Would Brad Keselowski have made the chase in 2009 in the Finch Mobile or did they have that dumb must declare what series you are running for a championship rule then?

What if you're hurt or suspended for a race or two? Yet have won a shitload of races still? No go in the chase then?

If you're hurt, you're exempt and can still make the Chase (as per NASCAR). Good question about the suspension thing, however.

I suppose one or two races is fine since you were due to run fulltime. It's part timers that won't get in.

Lets just make rules up as we go along, that's a well tested procedure.

Even if these low buck teams get lucky and win to qualify for the chase, they aren't going to make it past the first elimination round anyways. Say Danica Patrick lucks into a restrictor plate win, do you really think she can outrun 12 other chase drivers at Chicago, New Hampshire, and Dover? No. So it does give some people who otherwise wouldn't have a chance, a possible chance to run for the title. Most likely they are out after the first round, or if they get really lucky, the second round. David Ragan would have made the chase last year.. and been eliminated after 3 races. It's a feel good story that the little Front Row team that could made the playoffs, but they still suck and will still lose early.

Back before all this chase shit, finishing 16th in the championship was nothing to crow about.

I assume with the new format, there's bigger reason than ever to have rotating tracks to host the season finale.

And now, being in 16th with 28% of the season remaining, you're technically championship material.

Beautifully done, Brian France. The more thought people put in to your new gimmick, the more it proves to be flagrantly abysmal.

One never was for another....shoulda hired a fresh face like BK Racing.

Also Joe Nemecheck and his son John Hunter will split a full Truck schedule with the family owned team. John running the short tracks and Joe on the speedways. That will be fun to see.

Reed's not a bad driver, IMO. Definitely more proven than Yeley, anyway... shame that Blaney got the boot, though.

Joe Nemechek is going to have an interesting year. Splitting the season between the 66 and 87 in cup...I've seen on twitter that his Nationwide team has formed an alliance with JGR, and now splitting a decent truck ride with his son...This could be a very good year for him.

Isn't the 66 just a Nemco/Jay Robinson car when MWR isn't racing? It is just like the Joe Falk/RCR deal with the 33 isn't it?

From what I've read it would be MWR equipment the whole way but I still don't know exactly.

Also, lol at "community service" as a penalty for rules infraction.
