All this simply to avoid admitting the Gen5/6 is a turd.

It's embarrassing to see where this sport is heading.

I think they do but they're so blinded by pride they'll "move heaven and earth" to quote a saying before they'll go back to the Gen4 type aero configuration.

Even people with basic knowledge of aerodynamics know piling on rear downforce or making the air behind the car dirty with wickers won't solve the core problem, ever.

You watch, next they'll be trying DTM style dive planes and letting the teams use more ground effects to try and solve it, rather than the obvious, cos they'd rather destroy what little sport they have left before admitting they were wrong (remember when they introduced the Gen5 with the splitter they said it would improve racing - even though every redneck and his dog cried NOOO!!!!)

All the aero stuff is concerning, but nothing makes my skin crawl more than the thought of the tapered spacer. More power, less downforce might not be the ideal option (I'm confused at this point), but it's better than less power and more downforce.

More power and less downforce would be the answer to a lot of racings problems..

The more and more series that seem to be going in the exact opposite direction make me think it's a bit of an old fashioned notion these days tbh.

You know, Gen 4 was producing equally shitty racing by the time they moved to COT. The problems go a lot deeper than aero; think shocks and tires.

Just looking at the lead changes from years past and in the COT and Gen6 days, its never really been ALL that different...There always has been dominators, Underdogs usually get 1-3 races a year, rest are filled with big teams. In our "glory days" of the late 90's...Jeff Gordon was winning 8-10 races a year...more dominance than even JJ. So whats really the difference here? Dislike of top drivers? Did we all just grow up and realize it's not the thrill we thought it was as a kid?

Matter of fact...I just compared one of NASCAR's "best years" 1992, to 2012...Almost every track that was run in both of those years, there were MORE lead changes in 2012 also more different winners than in 1992....just sayin....

Just compare the ground clearance of the Gen 4 noses between, for example 1999 and 2007, during the transition:

There's your point illustrated.

I just think the racing would be better if they didn't rely so much on aero downforce, having the cars sealed off to the track as opposed to more mechanical grip. Maybe they should listen to the drivers, like Carl and get rid of the downforce so goodyear can actually build a tire that will wear. Give them the bigger tires that were tested a few years ago. Get rid of the damn splitter/shark fin while you're at it...
