Am reading on Twitter that both NAPA and 5 Hour Energy are less than thrilled with the actions of MWR and are reviewing their sponsorship.

NAPA KNOW HOW
2 hours ago near Atlanta, GA

Dear Facebook Fans and the NAPA community,

The actions taken by Michael Waltrip’s Racing team this past weekend leading to the penalties assessed by NASCAR, are very concerning. We are disappointed that a partner associated with our organization would make such a significant error in judgment. In addition, we have launched our own review to determine the future of our partnership with Michael Waltrip’s Racing team. The NAPA AUTO PARTS organization is proud of its long-standing NASCAR relationship. We share a passion with our customers for high quality racing and seek to determine the best course of action for our customers, NASCAR fans, and the NAPA organization.

They could though. Just because they stayed after one scandal, they might decide that a second is too much and not want to stick around to see if there's a third.

There's only so much a company can take.

If they didn't get caught NAPA and 5-hour Energy would probably be giving bonuses to the team for cheating their way in

This just reeks of copy and paste PR crap.

That statement would not have been made if NASCAR had put a blind eye on the incident.

That's the thing, though... pushing the envelope in the garage area and getting caught (relatively often) is one thing, but going out of your way to manipulate the outcome of a race - without having any reservations in doing so (they made no attempt to hide anything over the radio, like Menard did in '11) - is another thing altogether.

As a Jeff Gordon fan, I'm disappointed he didn't make the Chase. However, in no way, shape or form would I actually want him to get into the Chase based on the crap that went down on Saturday night. They haven't run well all year, and they missed the Chase by a single point; one can look at Michigan in August, the Glen, the Daytona 500, or any ridiculously huge number of races where they just plain missed it.

It sucks, but I'm not that disappointed.

Also, Clint Bowyer's 50-point penalty shouldn't be "post-Richmond", it should be "pre-Chicagoland". Starting the Chase with 1,950 points and not 2,000 would be fine, but that isn't the case.

Not sure what this one is all about but the NASCAR on Fox facebook page posted this.

Quote:
Breaking News: More cheating uncovered at Richmond International Raceway. This time it involves Joey Logano and the No. 22 team and could result in another shakeup to the Chase.

So from now on if you let someone by for position, it's cheating.

Okay.

:tumble:

The irony of this is... say Logano gets docked 50 points as well, does that not put Truex BACK in??

edit: No, it looks as if Gordon gets in by virtue of being 10th and Kahne and Newman still get the wild cards.

Does no-one else realise what NASCAR are really trying to do here? I mean, this is blatantly them trying to penalise as many people as possible so Danica secures a chase spot.

*runs and hides*

O FFS, I'm sure people have been letting people by at Richmond to aid their teammates and buddies each and every year since the chase started.

Alright, NASCAR has way overstepped now. Why couldn't they just penalize the 15 team for causing a yellow and be reasonable?

Nascar needs to go back in time now and penalize Richard Childress for all the times they ran the #31 car with Neil Bonnett when Sr was running for a championship. Image

I think the whole deal here sucks... But idk why it's a big deal. In 1995 HMS entered the 58 car of Jeff Purvis to make sure there were enough DNFs to make Gordon the champ. How's it different?

As things played out, the 24 ran so terrible and things fell their way that they didn't need the 58 but it was there strictly for that.

With enough start and parks, a driver with a decent lead on second in points could still claim the title even with the instance of an unlikely crash or mechanical failure if all they needed to do was finish higher than 37th or so.
