Well, Max is racing and it's somewhat his home GP. At the least he'll block in a way that would receive applause back in the days but a penalty today.

Yeah, I wouldn't make the presumption the race will be automatically 10/10. More likely it's going to be 4/10, especially if Mercedes dominates and the weather is nice throughout the weekend. Anything better than Hungary is enough.

should be updated automatically every 3 hours or so

last really good GP I can remember here was 2010.
the editions since have had their moments of course (Hamilton taken out by Kobayashi in '11, start crash of '12, brake problems for Kimi in '13, Hamilton puncturing Rosberg in '14, Verstappen's moves in Blanchimont, Grosjean's unlikely podium and Bottas being fitted the wrong tyres last year) but nothing that makes the race as a whole stand out.

I think one issue with the races here over the past few years is the DRS zone on the kemmel straight which has seen much of the overtaking become a bit too easy which has taken a lot of the excitement out of a lot of the racing/overtaking down to les combes which is where a lot of the side by side racing & notable overtaking traditionally occurred.

The DRS zone on the start/finish straight is fine, But the one on the kemmel straight is completely unnecessary.

What would they do if there is a repeat of 1998 btw? With the lack of spare cars we'd be looking at Indy '05 sized grid.

The fact its over a mile from La Source to the top of Le Combes and uphill, DRS and draft is magnified in its effects

Perfect for a Nico Rosberg "Hey look, I'm about to overtake Lewis" moment :lol:

Can someone who's stood at the bottom of Eau Rouge tell me how steep it is. I don't think it looks that steep.

There's nothing else you can do, every other area where the cars are likely to overtake isn't straight.
And lets not pretend DRS has changed too much when it comes to passes up Kemmel straight, they were always drive bys even before DRS, the straight is just so long and if there's a difference in exit speed from Radillion, forget it, they're motoring on by many seconds before the brakes are applied.
That Hill/Schumacher moment in the first picture is about the only time I can remember an overtake lasting to the braking zone.

This also happens in all the other lower series too, be it f3, GP3/2 or Sportscars.

It's spa, it rebels against your puny early weather forecasts

Expect a deluge from Thursday evening until 1 hr before qualifying.
Then after a dry qualy session, expect rain from GP3 Chequred flag until 1 hour before F1 parade lap.

Then a hell of a lot more rain as soon as the podium ceremony is done with.

100% chance of this happening.

Which again highlights why having DRS there is dumb. If overtaking was easy down there already, Why make it even easier & less meaningful.


They need to be more flexible in where/how they use it because the way there using it currently may help some races (I think its worked fairly well to improve races at Hungary) but there are other circuits where I still believe it hurts the racing (Spa, Montreal & China where its simply not needed at all IMO)..... Oh & FFS get it out of GP2, Its definitely not needed there.

Much like my football team I've come not to expect too much from an F1 weekend anymore. When I get my hopes up for a good game or race it always ends up shit and am let down. So I never go into an F1 weekend thinking it will be great anymore. That way I'm not let down and am pleasantly chuffed when a season or a race turns out great.

Probably the last season that I was actually excited to watch every race was 05.

I believe it's even quite hard to climb it on foot. I've only seen the corner from the top but I do think TV/photos don't do it justice, like Neil said. It's the same with the speed of the cars. And with the height of Hollywood actors, but then the other way around. :roll:

Based on the cycling elevation data I could find it is not that steep I would have expected; 11% at the most.
