I don't believe jack shit Joe says as a former Caterham board member :yuk:

edit: Where is the Tony Fernandez opinion on this? He always pops up when not needed.

I can't believe how rude he can be towards his readers. I used to find him informative but he's becoming a giant prick.

This Joe Saward seems like quite a prick

This already has been cleared up during the appeal hearing. It’s not Giedo van der Garde’s fault, because it’s not the drivers, but the teams responsibility to apply for the Super Licence.

I've never seen a situation like this in racing.

That is probably the closest, but that only went to the Contract Recognition Board and Button eventually paid with his own money to drive for BAR. He didn't go to the Supreme Court the day before the race.

Probably because both sides where sensible and more importantly able enough to settle things before it got this far.

Looking at how things have gone I assume vdGarde did try the out of court settlement thing but Sauber (or at least Moneysha) refused any solution.

What I still can't understand is how Giedo's backers fully paid already, and Sauber still refuses to give him the seat while holding on to the money.

Maybe Sauber need to pay wages or to the suppliers and need money upfront.

Because if they give him a seat they must repay someone who pays more for the same seat. And paying Giedo isn't an option either because they're basically broke.

Sauber acted out of survival hoping Giedo or Sutil wouldn't sue them.

Frankly, if you have to resort to these measures to survive you're fucked anyways and I doubt they would have finished the season even without vdGarde and Sutil suing them.

Reminds me a lot of Arrows in 2002

Quote:
For 2002, Walkinshaw made a deal to use Cosworth V10 engines and retained Bernoldi (with support from Red Bull) but dropped Verstappen in favour of Heinz-Harald Frentzen who became available when Prost Grand Prix closed down. This caused Verstappen to successfully sue for breach of contract. That year also saw a costly payout to Pedro Diniz after unsuccessfully suing the Brazilian, who had taken his funding to Sauber for 1999. The team faced a third litigation from Frentzen, who was on contract by a race-by-race basis and who had not yet been paid. Arrows ran out of money in the midseason and did not appear at all the races at the end of the year, their drivers deliberately failing to qualify for the French Grand Prix.

It's quite possible Renault will come in with some money to buy the team during the European 3-week summer break.

As for Monisha K, I think it'd be to early to pin the mess on her, although it would be funny to play 'Pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey'... lol

The thing about arbitration is that both sides have to enter into it willingly. So Sauber were interested in settling out of court...right up until the point the arbitration panel found that Giedo had a watertight case.

wow, I learned at least 3 new things in that article.
Didn't Arrows still transport its cars to the Belgian GP?

What a tast car that was. I have both in 1:18.

Didn't Minardi go to court in Australia one year just before the season started?

@tgruener: #F1 Looks like Manor can't drive at Melbourne because of engine software issues. Concerns also for next races. AMuS:
