I guess the sedation is to reduce pressure on the brain whilst in flight (air pressures, etc...).

Wind and AstroTurf it is.

So it wasn't a seizure, or electrocution, or fainting, or something else sensationalist and unlikely then. Who'd have thought... :whistling:

Sounds like it was similar to Maldonado's crash during qualifying last year. Ran a bit wide, Caught the astroturf & got spun to the inside wall:

Or maybe the car took the energy rather then the suspension.

Some of the biggest G crashes had a car crashing very well aligned to the wall, not getting much damage from it, but the sudden stop still shakes the drivers brain and internal organs. Still, no concussion or high G noted in the official report. But no deny either......

pffft...you haven't been reading the finnish message boards from tabloid news papers' sites about this. it's where the truth is.

Alonso crashed it on purposely to make it look like a mechanical failure or a driver health condition issue to make him to avoid driving the full season with a dreadful car. Now he's faking the whole year to avoid driving more than needed and boosting his image as a driver who's overcome a great injury to battle for another title, just like the rare breed of Stewart, Lauda, Mansell and Schumacher did...except from the faking part of this theory, of course.

Anyone who thinks Alonso is faking it need to be removed from the gene pool.

McLaren's statement still doesn't explain what Vettel said he saw though, that's what I find confusing. I'm usually as far away as you can get from being a tin foil hat wearer, but I still find this whole thing a bit weird. Oh well

It's possible that Vettel could have only caught the tail end of the accident, rather than having witnessed the start of it. Something similar to what Maldonado did in qualifying last year is plausible, just with a different ending and the wrong angle.

To anyone suggesting that the wind is a cover up, it was exceptionally windy yesterday, plus - if I've worked this out right - there would have been a crosswind pretty much where he lost it at Turn 3.

Either way, just have to hope he recovers soon, even if he has to sit out this next test.

Sounds like he went wide on the turf and then hooked aggressively back to the inside wall when he tried to catch it. I guess that makes sense, and if he hit completely flush with the right side it could explain why the car damage wasn't as obvious (and certainly would provide a big, single impact).

Carlos Sainz mentioned that it was crosswinds that caused his accident as well.
