How times have changed. Look how they turned that car.

Same with Gugelmin's crash at Paul Ricard in 1989, which was mentioned in the FIA season review

Those crashes are a tiny bit more spectacular compared to Alonso's massive crash test though...

the same goes for Warwick I think it was at Monza with the Lotus?

Warwick got out while the car was still on it's side.

But just because the accidents look more spectacular because parts are flying off the car, it means energy is being dispersed differently. In Alonso's case, the energy wasn't dissipated through wheels and suspension coming apart and instead his body and head probably absorbed more of it than normal.

when you guys mentioned Brundle crash I thought it was that at Mirabeau but that was with Patrick Tambay. I always remember that one when we talk about safety measures as he could fall high and into spectators

I understand all of that and all the reasons why he will not race at Australia, but fact is that this must be one of the 'least spectacular and looking rather unharming' F1 crashes resulting in a driver to stay 3 consecutive nights at the hospital and missing a Grand Prix three or 4 weeks later.

If this crash is really the sole reason for Alonso's medical issues, then I think FIA should investigate it why, because such a silly looking crash should not result in this. Perhaps the wishbones or structure around the wheels should be 'less strong' so it will criple and absorb energy in this sort of crash?

Otherwise it looks like you can better have a Villeneuve style crash at Raidillon instead of this, which makes no sense somehow.

The cars have been getting progressively stronger, perhaps they're back at 1950s levels where the car withstands the impact undamaged and the driver absorbs the energy instead?

does anyone believes that Alonso will retire due to "psychological reasons"?

Why? Do you think his 2012 title loss still plays on his conscience?

Michael Schumacher drove for Ferrari, now can't even walk or talk, according to rumours.

Fernando Alonso drove for Ferrari, now he thinks he is 13 years old living in 1995.

Now, Sebastian Vettel,

maybe a Ferrari curse?
