They'll run on the GP layout - all of the teams and Pirella have several years' worth of data to compare things to, so there's really no point running on one of the other ones. Also, don't doubt that data from this test will be useful for the GP itself.

with the lack of testing at Circuit de Catalunya, we might actually see a half decent GP there.

You mean like we did in 2012 and 2013?

I wonder if they might opt for the various lay-outs available on this track, or just stick to the GP circuit.

They're running on the GP circuit from 9am to 5pm, as per usual for test days (which I think is 6am to 2pm GMT)

No. They have updates throughout the day and 'ask Crofty' at the end of each day.

Why aren't they covering a test live this year? They have a dedicated F1 channel afterall, show some live F1 on it. Seems to me their interest in F1 is already dropping. They should increase their coverage each year, not scale it back

Low ratings and the expense of covering it live. FOM take some cameras but not enough to cover the whole circuit, so it'd be up to Sky to sort it out - unless they reached a deal with FOM. Getting a lot of technical equipment into and out of Bahrain is probably not a fun task either.

They will have action from the test, just not live. I think there'd be more of a focus on Bahrain 2 rather than Bahrain 1 anyway - so if there is any live action it may be from that test.

I was referring to the final test, that's usually the one with the most running. Just stick onboard camera's on all the cars, a camera in the pitlane and a camera on a crane that can film most of the circuit and you can have some good quality live coverage of the test. No need for multiple 3D camera's around the circuit like they did in Barcelona last year

Teams would probably refuse them access for onboard cameras.

Jerez would have been good for minimal cameras - you could see about 2/3 of the circuit from one spot

Because Pirelli, The engine manufacturer's & the teams all wanted to do some pre-season running in high temperatures.

yep. Specially Pirelli pushed for it. They partially blamed the problems, faced with their tyres, due to no proper tests during pre-season as the ambient and track temps are much higher during the season than the ones they have been facing in Jerez in last years. Hembery said that last year in Jerez they even had ice on the tarmac at some point. And with ambient temps ranging from 4 to 15ºC during winter testings, it really makes the tyre manufacturer goes quite blind into the season.

I guess due to logistics, Bahrain was the better option for a test in a warm place and given that the F1 circus never really had any major problem there, despite all the political context, I think nobody gave a second thought about another option.

I'm sure you saw that, Stef, but for those who didn't, Lewis said on Ted's notebook that the tyre lasts around some 30 laps at Jerez(with that weather). I hope it doesn't wear much more than that on warm Bahrain to finally kicks off a season with no headaches tyres-related

Man Jos looks really old in that photo. For some reason I still picture him as the fresh faced youngster in 94.

I'm just wondering who he had to beat up to get his opinion printed.

I know the feeling man! We are getting old! Within a few years we will be watching his son! It's amazing that the 90's generation is already producing a new generation in the 10's! Kevin Magnussen is a great example of that! We have Aurelien Panis too in some lower series, Josh Hill was there last year before retiring, yet the image we have from their fathers are the old fresh image from their F1 days.

You're right, we ARE getting old! :)
There's also Alex Brundle, Martin's son.

FIA have made a slight change to the sporting regulations article 43.3:

Quote:
"After receiving the end-of-race signal all cars must proceed on the circuit directly to the post race parc ferme without any unnecessary delay, without receiving any object whatsoever and without any assistance (except that of the marshals if necessary),".

"An exception to Article 30.4 (which states a driver cannot stop on track without a justifiable reason) and to the above will be made for the winning driver who may perform an act of celebration before reaching parc ferme, provided any such act;

- Is performed safely and does not endanger other drivers or officials.

- Does not call into question the legality of his car.

- Does not delay the podium ceremony.

"Any classified car which cannot reach the post race parc ferme under its own power will be placed under the exclusive control of the marshals who will take the car to the parc ferme."
