That was an awesome race. I listened to it on 5 Live as I was driving to Brands Hatch and it was amazing, moreso as I was a Schumi fan at the time.

Don't be so cynical. It was awesome purely because of what was at stake, Ferrari standing to achieve their first title in a couple of decades as well as Schumi overcoming Mika in superb fashion.

Epic races are just that. Races that are epic.
Epic results are a whole different thing entirely.

I had no personal dogs in that fight....then nothing happened. Micheal won and I wished I'd not got up to see a parade :slaphead:

There was a dogfight, just no hustling or ontrack overtakes. Pit lane overlaps FTW.

Yes, that race. It summed it uo in a nutshell.

It's the archetype of a championship battle disguising dull as hell racing.
NASCAR must've been watching at the time and had the seeds planted in their mind for what was to become the chase

While there may not have been much close racing or overtaking with the pass for the win done in the pits at Suzuka 2000 i'd still rate it as a classic race & not just because of the end result of Schumacher finally getting a championship with Ferrari.

The reason I'd rate it as a classic is because you had the 2 championship contenders driving what was basically 53 qualifying laps pushing one another to the absolute limit with everything on the line.

For me there doesn't have to be a ton of overtakes or necessarily a lot of close wheel to wheel racing for me to enjoy a race, Yes I like to see those things & its preferable for a race to feature a least a bit of those things but if a race doesn't feature much of either I can still enjoy the race just as much.

I think 2 other examples that Michael was involved in were those 2 races with Alonso at Imola in 2005/2006. I know that the usual argument against those races been good is that Imola was impossible to overtake on so the car in 2nd both years never had a chance of doing anything, But to me thats nonsense because you had 2 drivers pushing one another hard with both drivers putting one another under a ton of pressure & there was always the possibility of one of them making a mistake that presented an opportunity for something to happen. With the 2 best drivers on the grid at the time it may well have been unlikely but not impossible (Both had made mistakes under pressure before & did again in the future) & its that chance of something happening & that bit of uncertainty that always gets my heart pumping that little bit faster & some of those kinds of racing battles have been some of my favorite & most memorable racing moments through the years.

I saw the 1999 European gp, that was epic. For me personally I'll never forget that Japanese gp because i was a schumi fan aswell, 4 years i'd been waiting for it. But it's a different kind of epic

Well obviously it's just me, but I kinda assume these guys are professionals who won't make mistakes (until proven otherwise. Especially with a title on the line) and the added title pressure will mean they're less likely to make a Banzai overtaking move, not more.

Also once the opening lap was completed it was sort of expected M.S. would wait for the pit stops to get buy, it was the Ferrari team's modus operandi back then.

And If an overtaking wasn't happening in the first 10 laps pr so you know it wasn't going to happen in the last 15 laps either. Only a mechanical failure could've changed that result and that wouldn't have made it that exciting either.

As I say, there's a big difference between epic racing and epic results. This was just the latter.

It is not official unless someone claims it, the management team deny it, then push out a press release stating exactly what was claimed by previous source, followed by an announcement that they'll sue original source for defamation by claiming "false facts".
