As the current trend towards not actually start about a minute before Free Practice, I thought I'd take us over the Channel, through Northern France and Belgium and into Germany, on a journey that many of our British and American ancestors themselves made and try move the conversation along from thing blowing up. This race was moved forward because apparently the toxic Hungarian GP bore-athon can't have another race within about a month or it.

Practices and so what start at the same time every other European event does. All times local to Nurburgring.

FP 1 - 10-11.30
FP 2 - 2 - 3.30
SP - 11-12
Q - 2-3
Race - 2-4

Unfortunately qualifying might clash with German heroine Sabine Lisicki taking part in the Wimbledon finals, so the grandstands may be empty. Last time in 2011, this was Vettel's least convincing performance of the year and Webber has been though to be a circuit speacilist. Who will win? Will it rain? Why exactly do Germans use compound nouns? All these questions and much more will be answered as we watch Round 9 of the Championship.

As usual Friday will be wet and on race day, when the weather actually would make a difference, it's bright and sunny.

Presumably Giedo, Charles, Jules and Max had their fingers crossed behind their backs when they agreed to this.

I find that very hypocritical. Perhaps the drivers should be threatening to boycott their teams rather than Pirelli, after all it is the way the teams are using the rubber which is creating more problems than it is solving.

The picture of Alonso on the BBC F1 homepage is hilarious. Sadly he had it in Britain as well which rules out the possibility of facial hair being the new bespoke helmets ... a special German GP moustache would be awesome.

Wouldn't be too hard. Just lose the soul patch and the ends of the top part...and it would look perfect.

WTF is going on right now?

Drivers should be telling the teams to run the tyres within Pirellis recommendations.

Pirelli are getting a lot of shit put onto them for no reason at all.

So have the FIA left themselves open for legal recourse, if they have been secretly lining up another tyre company during Pirelli's contract period without a tender process, whilst at the same time letting the contract renewal date lapse with Pirelli without informing them of their decsion or offreing them a tender process?

All a big IF of course as nothing has happened, but I feel that with threats of a drivers strike this adverse negative publicity for F1 will force the FIA to tip their hand.

Would love something like 2007.... Well, one can dream

If no rain in FP1/2, I guess teams will be all early on with their programs due to the tweaks in the Pirellis

Always nice to see lot's of gravel traps. Even Spa looks barren nowadays.
