Question? Was Vettel given strict, clear and direct orders not to pass Webber?

Yes.

Mark was also given reassurances twice that Seb was to hold position.

IMO.

I've been lurking through the whole thread, and this is the most measured and logical comment on the Webber/Vettel/RBR situation so far. I still reckon Webber got screwed, but it's true that he probably could've done more about it once he realised something was up. How many laps did it take for Vettel to close the gap?

None. Vettel was given the undercut and came out of his pitstop right on the back on Mark's exhaust and they were pretty much fighting since then with Vettel having DRS use.

I think the "apology" makes it worse. You got the win and 25 points. Don't take us for fools and say it's an "unintentional" overtake. I admire the ruthlessness to an extent [given Webber's engine was turned down] but don't try to maintain a good guy image.

Senna, Schumacher, Alonso, Prost, Piquet. There is a large section of F1 fans who think they are utter cunts, team orders and a win at all costs mentality is part of the reason why. Embrace it, Your not any different Sebastien, it's why you'll retire with multiply titles.

Think he'll probably pass on that - suspect he quite likes being able to drive out of the pits with his front right tyre attached!

I can't understand people are angry at Vettel. We had a very great race. And then after the 4th stop, both Red Bull and Mercedes are saying to their drivers to stop racing. That is not what we want to see. I have seen a great battle with Webber and Vettel. You can ask if it was fair, but I want to see great racing. And I don't want to see teams saying to their drivers at 75% of the race to stop racing.

I guess everyone agrees that team orders at this stage of the season are bad for the sport but that does not justify Vettel's behaviour during the whole race. After the team order pro Webber had been given, Vettel could have radioed back "No fuck it. I want to win". Then the team could have passed the info to Webber and they could have raced it out. But as per current sate of information the team-order was out there and Vettel used the ceasefire situation to cut down the gap and get the victory. That's just sneaking and dishonest.

If someone has heard confirmed information that Vettel made his intention clear towards the team before he overtook Webber, please correct me here.

Also Vettel himself asked for team order earlier on when he was behind Webber - "He is too slow. Get him out of the way"

So we can not honestly argue in favor of Vettel, that he has been the lone fighter for racing spirit and sportsmanship today.

One final thing.

If you are going to give a competitor the finger, it has to be the full Coulthard.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

I'm not even sure he was actually trying to pit or he thought he'd run them over in revenge for his perceived rejection by the team last year :p

Also, I like how Red Bull took the perceived opinion of "Vettel can't overtake!" slightly too literally!

Now Sebass HAS learnt to overtake.....LOOK at the trouble it has caused.

I'm just quoting this because this is the best post I've seen so far regarding the entire discussion. Sums up how I feel about the entire situation tbh

Fact is, it's moves like this that put drivers like Vettel a cut above the rest. It's that killer instinct that Mark hasn't got, which means Vettel has 3 WDCs and he has 0. Yeah he'll have to go and do some explaining to the team but he's put himself in a position where he can get away with it and he'll be the one walking away with multiple more WDCs.

And I'd far rather see drivers actually trying to win then just settling for team orders. Who wants to watch that?

Obviously Vettel fans see only the positivies. And it's true that Vettel's success has created hate around him, the finger and all that. He's not the people's champion like Schumacher never was too. People tend to cheer for the underdogs and Webber is the underdog here. Whatever Vettel fans think it's obvious they will stand by him right 'til the bitter end and never admit he's done something wrong. Vettel is a class above Webber without this race and already has multiple WDC so I don't see any point about mentioning that here. I only can guess that the comments saying that Alonso is the best driver in F1 now cause Vettel's fans to lose their patience.

Anyone got anything from the Perez and Massa incident in the pit-lane? Apparently it was clear-cut penalty for Massa...Heard nothing though.

Away from all that, I am finding it most pleasing that Nico is really giving Hamilton a run for his money. Loads of people thought he was going to get outclassed this season, and it's proving not to be the case. Great news for Merc as it's going to help keep pushing them forward.
