He has more points than the second team in the teams championship.

The Guardian: F1 2013: Alternative driver rankings

Quote:
11 Max Chilton – Marussia

An habitual back-marker – but not here – he has finished last on a dozen occasions. His best performance was 14th in Monaco – and even then he was last but one. But this affable Marussia driver also set a rookie record by finishing every race. Astonishingly, he was the only driver to do so, and at the end of the season the team wanted to keep him.

12 Fernando Alonso – Ferrari

He looked a real title challenger when he won in China and Spain early in the season. And he remained wonderfully consistent, with nine podium finishes. But he also had a row with Ferrari and he didn't have a good enough car. The mid-season change of tyres appeared to cost him but, nevertheless, did not look quite as formidable as he has been.

Didn't you know? Chilton is in the same league as Fangio, Clark, Hill and Schumacher.

That's Mercedes engine HQ, by the way.

As stated earlier this season, there's only one driver who has won more races since the summerbreak than Max Chilton.

Well, the first part of that isn't untrue, is it? He had the best all-round car in all 3 seasons he won the title. One of them won every race bar 1. If he hadn't been driving them, he almost certainly wouldn't have won the championship in those seasons

It would be unfair to say Driver X from the midfield would have won the title in his position, but it's certainly possible that in some alternate universe, McLaren signed Piquet in 1988 (which, according to Prost, is they wanted to), Senna never won the title, and we're here talking about how six-time champion Alain Prost only won because he had the best car

Caused by an oil leak while on the dyno.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/111628

Quote:
Although the description sounded dramatic, a Mercedes spokesman has confirmed that normal procedure is for the fire brigade to be called when any incident takes place.

The spokesman said that the fire was caused by an oil leak, but that the dyno was not damaged and work has not been held up as the facility was running as normal on Tuesday.

Refusing to worship Vettel as a Formula 1 legend seems to become a rather unpopular opinion amongst racing fans these days.

Doubts about the skill of Senna can be dispelled with the fact that he beat Prost on equal material. Doubts about the skill Prost can be dispelled with the fact that he beat Lauda and Senna on equal material. Piquet and Mansell fought hard in 1987 Alonso and Hamilton matched each other in 2007. Vettel still lacks this objective benchmark (not saying that he would not be up to the task). That's all most of the Vettel skeptics are saying. Nothing wrong with that in my opionion.

The best objective benchmark regarding Vettel until today is still F3 where he raced for the exact same top team ASM Formula 3 in 2006 where Hamilton raced one year before and the point difference between both was quite significant.

Nope, that's a bad benchmark. 2010 would work significantly better, and he's only gotten like a thousand times better since.

In the year Vettel was defeated by Di Resta in F3 he was juggling three different roles at once. In addition to F3 he was also doing Friday running in F1 for BMW and did a part season in Formula Renault 3.5. It is not hard to understand why his focus in F3 wasn't always there.

Yes he may not have had a benchmark like some other legends in F1, but that doesn't mean his accomplishments are any less valuable or of merit. The guy is an F1 legend. And deservedly so. End of.

No, the summer one replaced it.

^ people also forget he won 18/20 in FBMW and in addition to the points you raised Kals, he also sustained an injury mid-2006.

Yeah but there were no good benchmarks to really test Vettel in FBMW that year. :p
