It'll take time to get used to, but I'd rather wait until we actually hear it being thrashed around a circuit properly and maybe not tweaked so rivals can't get any data!

Remember, the laws of F1 is that it was always better in the past.

Remember that exhaust changes the sound a lot. So it could be ok. Would still rather have V10s and V12s but clearly that's off the table.

Was positively surprised, and I decided to tweak some things for the 'external' sounds. Here is my edited soundfile. The source is the 2012-spec Indycar engine, in the EQ I tried to 'lighten' it a bit due to the smaller cilindersize. And of course raised the pitch a bit.

Of course it's just a raw sketch, but what the heck :)

Not always better. For instance, nobody wants the traction control gibberish back.

Also, in V10 times, people used to regret V12s and variety in engines, but I don't recall anyone disliking the V10 itself (how can you dislike anything when your whole body is too busy orgasming :p )

I think in terms of racing we're at the best F1 has ever had. I think it could be better, but I still think it's the best F1 has ever had. I think this generation of cars is relatively pretty too. Could do with better wings, but hey. The current state of F1, what I personally miss from the old days is cooler engines and cooler tracks. I love a lot of what F1 has now, which I certainly couldn't say 5 years ago. 2007 was awesome because Kimi was champion, but honestly, the cars were ugly (except better proportion wings), the tracks were getting worse, traction control (when did they have the almost fully auto boxes?), the racing was crap, and we'd not long moved to the V8 from the V10. Now, I think F1 is better in pretty much every way.

Oh look, something new arrives in F1 and before we've seen (or heard) it in proper action it gets denounced.

It's a first impression, I know, but it isn't good.

Say that to Bourdais at Monza 2008 and Spa 2008

Whilst I'll give you Monza, Bourdais was overtaken on the last lap by at least 2 cars (was it Vettel and Kubica) who were in exactly the same position as him (slicks) and 2 cars who had made the personal decision to go onto the right tyres.

I'll obviously have to wait and see what the new engine truly sounds like, but I'll argue to the death that the V6 turbos of the 1980's sounded far better than anything we've had in recent years.

I like the way the new units sound based on the 2 we've heard so far.

Yes there not ear-bleeding V12's, high revving V10's or loud V8's. But they still sound like a race engine, the performance will still be crazy fast & we'll all still be watching & enjoying the racing just as much as we have to this point.

who cares about sound if it means an increase of power? I think I'll love the new F1 :-)

always loved turbo engine noises, despite falling for the nowadays noise when I first saw it personally in 2008 Brazilian gp

anyway F1 until ground effect was more about power and what I foresee for next years is ban on internal combustion engines

F1 engines should be at least 3 liters and free to develop while aerodynamics was the one to freeze development. Back in 2006-07 I was a fierce supporter of this and I still think it could show more excitement and retirements for mechanical problems, one thing that I miss was insane races with 8 or less driver finish

Sooooooo...

It seems this Kimi-Ferrari rumour has legs.

Yeah, it seems to be so. SuomiF1.com reporter Pekka Franck says that he has multiple reliable sources for this, one from Italy, close to Ferrari, one from Germany, the same source that first confirmed that Kimi had made his first deal with Ferrari in 2005 and one from Kimi's inner circle. I mean, this guy really is pushing this as a true story, with his own name. He's risking his own credibility as an reliable F1 reporter with this, so either there's something into it, or he's preferring the gossip side of the sports. The official announcement should be "within a few weeks". Ferrari has usually announced their drivers in Monza.

I don't know. I hope this reporter is not just screwing around, it would be shameful to use such strong terms as he had without any truth behind his words. With gossips, you can spot out the question marks and words like allegedly and rumoured, but he's not using them. He's saying that SuomiF1 source has confirmed that the contract's been signed and official announcement should follow. That's not spinning around rumours anymore, that's when you tell what is coming up soon. That or he's not familiar with the story about the boy, who cried out for a wolf too many times.

I initially thought it was just a BS rumour. But then in Hungary, Kimi said in the press conference that his decision might look stupid, but that it's the best for him. So maybe there is some truth in that Ferrari story?

Wow. This silly season is turning out to be mighty. 2014 could look very interesting if Ferrari are lining up Kimi to partner or replace Alonso, whereas Red Bull could be lining up Alonso or Raikkonen to join Vettel. Either way, we could get some amazing fireworks in 2014.

Yeah, that's the thing that's setting me off the most with all these rumours. Everyone expects Kimi to go Red Bull or either stay with Lotus. Then out from the blue comes Ferrari rumours and Alonso walking around motorhomes and going bad mouth about Ferrari's performance.
