LMAO. When you think you understand Marko Helmut, he totally suprises you with another one of his motherfucking suprises.

Sure, Da Costa was expected to win in WSR this year and might pay for it now (although a lot of blame can be laid into Arden). Kyyat looks like a talented pay driver, but still this must be a money driven decision.

What is Red Bull going to do with Da Costa? 3 years WSR looks pretty useless to me.

Well that's interesting. Huge shame for Da Costa, but Kvyat has looked pretty impressive so it'll be interesting to see how he goes. Hope it isn't too soon for him, but I fear it may be.

Yea, very surprising decision, he's certainly a talented driver no doubt and I always thought he'd probably eventually end up in F1, but at the expense of Da Costa and so soon... didn't see that one coming. Crazy fact, he was 5 days old when Senna died

Kvyat is hugely talented but I feel da Costa is better right now. I just hope they haven't thrown him in too soon.

You know that's exactly what they've done.

and with Petrov's backing and suggested move to Sauber, we could be looking at potentially three Russians in F1 for 2014 :-s

someone please close that Iron Curtain.

Who is that Coldtyre? I know it is a HM Plant Honda racing around Macau.

I never found out exactly (year or rider), except one post on a Kawasaki forum saying it's none other than Michael Rutter. I'm inclined (haha) to believe that's true.

Maybe after a few years of going with Sebs, Marko likes the name Dan now?

Completely agree with this. If he doesn't adapt well then that's a career ending move.

The news also means that Red Bull must rate Vergne - if they didn't, they'd get rid of him. They don't need a yardstick for Kvyat because if that's how they work, they wouldn't have got rid of Buemi and Alguersuari in 2011.

I'd also say that Sainz is a shoe-in for 2015 now.

Da Costa? I rate him, you don't suddenly lose talent in 12 months, if anything you become better for the set backs. If there'd been a seat free at the end of 2012 it'd be his.

Maybe you sell more cans in Russia than Portugal?

With how Marko is, he might be thinking that if Ricciardo bombs then they go move someone else into that seat, and have 2 seats to fill anyway.

Another aspect I was thinking of is that 2013 could very well be the end of Red Bull's dominance. From here, the only way is down and when that's the case, Red Bull will look to move into another branch of sports and sell the team. So the need for a successor to Vettel becomes less of an issue.

The business/cynical part of my brain would suggest that Red Bull has been looking to sell Toro Rosso for a few years; a proposed deal with a Middle Eastern group didn't come off so perhaps - with the Russian GP looming - they reckon that Kvyat is developed enough to be competent in 2014, rather than great, but show enough potential to lure Russian sponsors. Perhaps in turn this could lead to a change of ownership at the team. With da Costa, the chances of that happening would be minimal.

(Now that I've said that, go and watch Red Bull wrap up the next four titles)

Whoa, what the heck?

I suppose Red Bull have thrown Kvyat into the deep end and if it doesn't work out then they could chuck Da Costa in?

We haven't had a good pay driver (I know Kvyat haven't proved it yet) since Pedro Diniz? Or was Sergio Perez a pay driver for Sauber?

So Venezuela leaves and the Russian come. Good thing they aren't both active at the same time. What country is next?

I think Sirotkin and Kvyat are potential good drivers, only they bring them in way too early.

Marko has given Kvyat the first third of the season before he should deliver
