30 years ago few could anticipate what was to come, in January 1994 Senna first tried the Williams at Estoril and right after the shakedown he candidly said to a journalist "right at my turn they fucked up the car"

They didn´t fuck up the car. The new rules forced them to ditch all the electronics that made the Williams so strong in ´93.
Benetton only got that memo in ´96.

Previous driver who raced with car #38 was Christian Danner in 1989 Canadian Grand Prix. That ended up being the last Grand Prix for Rial team as none of their drivers, Danner, Volker Weidler, Bertrand Gachot, Gregor Foitek or Pierre-Henri Raphanel managed to qualify for remainder of the season.

The number has been since used by several third drivers: Ricardo Zonta, Ryan Briscoe, Olivier Panis, Robert Kubica, Sebastian Vettel, Kazuki Nakajima, Max Verstappen, Sean Gelael and Naoki Yamamoto.
