So, no passing at all then?

Strange....

I think we saw a lot of passes in the past in Canada. Last year was a Farce. We could have seen a great battle between Schumacher, Webber and Button, but now Webber and Button could easily pass each other with DRS. That has nothing to do with racing and fighting for position. There was no fight.

I think we're all going to see things differently. What I saw last year was a great battle between these three which lasted a good number of laps and ended with one of those drivers being able to fight for the win. Passing at Montreal, despite that long straight, has never been easy or guaranteed. In fact most of the passing last year was done in the second zone, which says a lot about the effectiveness of the first zone.

I think that is what we were all trying to say, but for which we didn't find the appropriate words :P

Lots of people saying it'll be quite cold. Should be a close qualifying with a short lap time, although it'll make the options difficult to switch on (bad luck Jenson)

What I remember was Button easily passing Schumacher in the middle of the straight, way before the braking zone. It was no battle at all, he couldn't do anything to defend his position, he was a complete sitting duck. And that's why I prefered Monza's race way more than Canadian's, as there we could see drivers attacking and defending.

Hope this year, shortened by a rather small margin of 50m, it won't be as farcical.

And what you seem to be totally ignoring is that Webber was stuck behind Schumi for lap after lap and despite the DRS advantage found it difficult to get around him. What you're also totally ignoring is how Jenson got around Webber, which was thanks to a mistake Mark made when attempting to get around Schumi. And what you're also totally ignoring was that when there was no DRS after the final safety car, Webber could not get anywhere near the back of Schumi down the back straight. What is farcical is the blinkered point of view.

Without DRS we wouldn't have had the grandstand finish to the race we had. Simple as that. And no doubt people would have moaned about how boring the race was (rain aside).

Yes, yes, even more yes.

People who bitch and whine about DRS need to read this. They always complain about the "spirit of racing" is ruined, well, I believe the true spirit of racing is competitiveness. So many races over the last 18 months have been significantly been improved by DRS (and the tyres, yes, I am not just saying it's all the DRS). Imagine the 2008 season with DRS? Where there were so many unbelievable races...

Totally agree, I've said it before but if I'm going to spent $60 a month to watch F1 and stay up to 2:00am on a monday morning then I want to be entertained!, yes they didn't have the DRS zone perfect last year and I agree that some of the passing was too easy but you learn from your mistakes.

(Some) People are saying it was too easy - it still took Webber a few laps to get passed Michael because he was positioning his car well ... and because that Merc seemed to fly (such as at Monza when Hamilton couldn't pass him down the pit straight [ignoring the other bits of why he couldn't pass him for now] with DRS because the gearing of his McLaren was too short and so even with DRS, the Mercedes would eventually start to pull away again).

when did the 1982 Canadian Grand Prix resume after the red flag due to Paletti's accident? Was watching the highlights again and Murray was mentioning, near the end of the race, that it was getting decidedly darker.

I very much agree; F1 has improved with the introduction of DRS. Of course it helps when it works :p I think Monaco is a perfect example of a race without DRS - it was so boring!

Actually, Monaco was just Monaco, the classic 2 hour car parade. Nothing to do with DRS or KERS. In previous years we were just lucky that there were some many Safety Car periods which bunched the field up all the time.

"Double DRS" + long straights + usually cold temperatures ... anyone else thinking this could be a Mercedes weekend?
