Good to hear these news about Perez. What a shame he can't compete tomorrow though, I thought he was impressive today (well, before he decided to take an awful line through the chicane approach)

Hamilton should be able to start on the soft tyres tomorrow seeing as his time was deleted.

Is that true? In fact, he drove 4 laps in Q3. An outlap, that lap with Massa. And another outlap, and his 'fast' lap. I don't know why he don't have a time now, but in fact he drove 4 laps in Q3, and I think he must start on the supersoft tyre.

The red flag came before he crossed the line on that lap with Massa (or even before he went through Rascasse) so it didn't count.

Technically he drove a lop, but the FIA deleted that lap for cutting. I don't know how the FIA will see that for the use of tyres.

Scary to think what could've happened to Perez if they hadn't removed those speed bumps before Quali...

He'd probably have hit with the rear of the car only. The jump over the bump was what saved Nico from hitting the barrier.

No, how is taking off a better alternative than staying on the ground? It means the car goes straight on without losing speed. Rosberg was saved by sheer luck and the fact he could still steer to the left a little with the remaining front wheel.

Hitting the bumps sideways with a damaged car can only cause major air or in the worst case, tipping over.

Ya, twas me. Looked like someone took a picture from the pit lane just as Lewis was running wide. Can't see it now, one of those temporary Twitpics.

disappointed for hamilton, he was the only one who could really take it to Vettel this weekend and now he has not a hope in hell. So much for this championship.

Q. (Heikki Kulta – Turun Sanomat) Sebastian, this was your first pole here in Monaco. Was this the pole that you wanted the most and it must have been quite a lap because you broke Kimi's record from 2005 by one tenth?

SV: Ah, it's good to hear. I think Kimi doesn't care, to be honest. Yeah, Jenson's just said he's driving trucks these days.

He broke Kimi's pole lap from 2005, but not from 2006 Q2, where Kimi did a lap in 1:13.532. Vettel did "only" a 1:13.556 lap. ;)

Feels bad that Perez can't race, but concussion is a serious condition. He could suffer permanent injury if he crashed again in such short notice. Probably the car is a write off too...

Back to HRT, I wonder whether Kolles will apply the same tactics now on some other tracks where he thinks the cars are on 107% borderline. After all, there is a great chance they won't repeat their best lap times from practice in qualifying proper and will be relying on the steward's mercy. The fact they allowed them to race in Monaco is setting a tricky option for the future.

I don't think it was about tactics for HRT yesterday. Sure, Karthikeyan might have been on the wrong side of 107%, but Liuzzi's car was destroyed at the end of the session. I think they had the speed to make it through Q1 barely. Montreal might be a different story.

This could be a good alternative at the chicane, putting armco or SAFER barrier in red:

Image

This way cars would slide along the wall and be deflected towards the bureau de tabac straight and suffer less damage.
There's no additional danger for drivers exiting the chicane than there already is now.

Anyway they can't really keep that separator like that. If they put it further, it will be a danger for the cars on the small straight after the chicane.

He improved a lot last season and was as good as Buemi, sometimes better. Buemi seems to be the one getting the job done this season. Although I have to admit I haven't paid a massive amount of attention to that team.

Despite the fact that I prefer Alguersuari to Buemi, I have to admit that Buemi has owned him this year. If STR are going to replace one of them, it should be Alguersuari.

I seriously don't think they can do much about the track fencing, personally, best thing to do is do flatten the bumps on the road, they seem to be the main culprit.

I agree. Smoothen the bump towards the chicane, now it has too sudden drop on the braking zone.

What they could also do, is to add new, softer barrier before the barrier that Perez hit. Safer barrier / armco would just bounce the cars to the traffic between chicane and Tabac, greating even bigger threat to others and the driver in the out of control car.
