The Bahrain Grand Prix (Arabic: جائزة البحرين الكبرى‎) is a Formula One Championship race which first took place at the Bahrain International Circuit on 4 April 2004.

The Bahrain Grand Prix, sponsored by Gulf Air, made history as the first Formula One Grand Prix to be held in the Middle East. Bahrain fought off fierce competition from elsewhere in the region to stage the race, with Egypt, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates all hoping for the prestige of hosting a Formula One Grand Prix.

The Bahrain Grand Prix has usually been the third race of the Formula One calendar. However, in the 2006 season, Bahrain swapped places with the traditional opener, the Australian Grand Prix, which was pushed back to avoid a clash with the Commonwealth Games. Bahrain will stage the opening race of the 2010 season.
I thought they would use a extra bit of track between turn 4 and 6? Is that true or don't they use that at all this year (I hope so :P)

I don't understand the new trackarea. The corner they changed was a corner with a good possibility to overtake. Now we have to wait if it possible there to overtake, although it looks like there is still a good possibility to overtake.

But, the other new part looks very slow. And with only 49 laps, there is no increase possibility to overtake then last year.

It looks like since we don't go to Imola no more, they shrunk it and stuck it on the side of the track.

The only part of this track I like is the long double apexed left hander (17 and 18 on that map) where you have to turn and brake at the same time.
It could be an important corner at the very end of the race, if this full tank/tyre wear thing comes off
(I still have a feeling Bridgestone will make a tyre that gives grip all the way through the race though, robbing us of a GP2 style prospect of different cars with different grip levels getting closer and maybe even battling....but we'll see...)

In the GP2 races it was great for promoting mistakes as a car ran wide under pressure and came under attack from the car behind. If I was Tilke I would've make that the final corner...

Totally agree on that, despite what you mentioned the track is shit to me. That's the reason I'm not too excited about this first GP despite all new things in 2010.

I'm still loving the reason for this new section of the track, because "there are more cars now so we need more space". Yeah, right. If that's the case go back to old Hockenheim...

+ 1. Such a dull venue to open the season. Feels strange not being at Melbourne or Brazil.

Well we already had Bahrain as a season opener (2006) and this one was quite an entertaining race. But I prefer Melbourne without a doubt.
