2009 ends the first decade in this milennium. The most historic part in F1 was the dominance of Ferrari and Michael Schumacher, but after that there were four different world champions.

What do you make of this decade? Was it better or worse than for example the great '80s and '90s? And what was your favorite year/race/moment?

Most boring decade in F1 history: so much fight on the courts and less on track. But this doesn't mean that there were some awesome moments and fights.

Schumacher vs Hakkinen
Schumacher vs Coulthard
Schumacher vs Montoya
Schumacher vs Raikkonen
Schumacher vs Alonso
Alonso vs Raikkonen
Alonso vs Hamilton
Hamilton vs Raikkonen
Hamilton vs Massa

Then some awesome races like Spa 2000, Suzuka 2005, Interlagos 2008.
Two great drivers born: Alonso and Hamilton.
We saw some amazing overtakes from Montoya.

So at the end it's not all that bad, but at the same time very far from the best.

Montoya is the driver of the decade. Maybe not in F1, but overall he absolutely is. His fighting with Schumacher was the highlights of the decade.
Suzuka 2005 was the race of the decade.
2003 the year of the decade.

It was much worst than 80's and 90's....by miles worst. F1 became even more a Bernie Ecclestone's luxury toy, a hostage of many economical interests, had almost became hostage of the car manufacturers (it was close). This decade has also seen the madden of one of the worst presidents of the sport like Max "The Little Whip" Mosley who was more interested in nazi orgies rather than administrating the series decently.

Unfortunately it was also the decade that F1 tracks/circuits changed the most in order to fall into some exaggerated standards of safety and ecology. Of course there were good seasons, the ones I most enjoyed were 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009. Can't say the same about the other years. I'm glad that this decade is coming to an end and some changes are already on track to inaugurate a new promising decade I expect to be much better!

Oh, yeah, you're right. It was the WTC and Zanardi crash that overshadowed the 2001 Monza...

I thoroughly entertained myself to the races early in this decade despite relatively boring races in most people's standard. Then I got carried away and started to lose interests for some reasons yet not completely understood by myself. I thought it was due to the situation in which I couldn't get to watch F1 in lates 90's and early 00's, but then again I realized I was actually rather intrigued by the mid 90's races too, and they were just as processional as today's races, hence I assume there were other factors, and I do hope I will regain that in the coming years. Because I loved cars when I was quite young and foster myself an interest in motorsport quite naturally after being able to recieve F1 and other motor races on television, and I am still having an avid passion for it.

I think it's all to do with those that believe we were a year early in celebrating the millenium.

He's actually right, since we didn't had a year 0, the new millenium started in 2001, which makes 2010 the last year of the decade.

But decades have always been known for the numbers, the '70s, '80s, '90s and the 00's. So the decade is over this year. If the first decade of the millenium ends this year, that's up for debate.

I believe for the excuses of the party, the first millenium only contained 999 years, but one feels we could go around arguing in circles here.

Some fantastic races have been seen in this decade:

Spa 2000
Sepang 2001
Brazil 2003
Silverstone 2003
Monaco 2004
Spa 2004
Imola 2005
Japan 2005
Hungary 2006
Canada 2007
Brazil 2008

This decade has been the safest in history, with driver injuries from accidents far reduced.

2001 ans 2002 were boring (except Montoyism :p )
A fantastic year: 2003 with M. Schumacher vs Montoya vs R. Schumacher vs Raikkonen vs Coulthard :D

2007 and 2008 were great years with the battle between Hamilton, Alonso, Massa, Raikkonen and other...

Well, this is the first decade that I have watched it.

My favourite season was probably 2000.
I know 2003 was great but for some reason I prefered 2000, maybe it was because of the atmosphere back then with Hakkinen, Schumacher and Coulthard. Ill never forget the battles between those three.
The only thing that was missing from that season was a WC finale which was ruined when Hakkinen's engine blew up at Indy.
For some reason though, I don't think that sort of atmosphere came back until around 2006 or 2007 with Kimi, Fernando and Lewis.

Ferrari domination kind of ruined the decade for me in the first half, I never really cared when my favourites (Mika or Kimi) were battling for 4th or whatever. Its all about 1st imo which didnt really help my enjoyment although there were great races now and again in that period. Nowadays I see it more from an alternative view which is better. 2003 definately had its own charm, ill never forget Silverstone that year!! And it was great to finally see the title race go to the wire despite the anti-climax at Suzuka. The best race has to be Suzuka 2005 though and the emergence of the young guns will stick out for me. I would also add 05, 07 and 08 as favourites.
