FORMULA 1 GRANDE PREMIO PETROBRAS DO BRASIL 2009

Ciruit History:
In 1938 a huge plot of land was bought in Sao Paulo by two local property developers who intended to build a large housing development. It soon became clear, however, that one part of the land was not suitable for housing and so they decided to build a racing circuit instead. Sao Paulo grew at an incredible speed though and soon the circuit was surrounded by houses.

When, in the 1970s, Emerson Fittipaldi began to have international success, the Brazilians started to want a Grand Prix. In 1971 and 1972 Interlagos hosted non-championship events but in 1973 the track hosted its first championship Grand Prix. The track became a lucky charm for local racers, Fittipaldi, Carlos Pace and Carlos Reutemann all taking the spoils of victory in the 1970s. Interlagos was the scene of Pace's first and only Formula One victory, and following his death in a plane crash the circuit was renamed in his honour.

In 1978 the grand prix moved to Rio, but in 1979 Interlagos got its race back. By 1981 however Rio had retaken the Grand Prix, Sao Paulo's slums being at odds with the glamorous image Formula One wanted to portray. When a $15m redevelopment programme was agreed in the heyday of Ayrton Senna, a Sao Paulo local, the race finally moved back to Interlagos.

And there it has stayed. Since Senna's death there may have been no Brazilian world champion, but the passion of the Brazilian fans keeps the sport coming back every year.
I was hoping for a dry race-turned-wet with Rubens winning, Glock staying out on slicks and losing 3rd place to Button on the final turn of the last lap. That way Button would've clinched the title based of wins, but without Timo this won't happen. :(

2007 and especially 2008 spoiled us like no race before, so I'm not really expecting much

the title will be decided in Brazil as it did the last couple of years, making abu dhabi even more uninteresting

Interlagos has been one of the best tracks on this decade. Is there even a boring race between 2000-2008? Every race has produced some drama, and some races like 2003, 2007 and 2008 will never be forgotten.

2005 was not too interesting. Last three have been fantastic, 2004 was good with Montoya/Räikkönen battle, 2003 we all remember, 2002 was one of the best races of the year (yeah, the season was bad one), 2001 had rain in halfway which caused some drama and earlier Montoya's overtaking on Michael and crash with Vertappen. 2000 wasn't fantastic but not among the worst either.

"Petrobras", not Petrobas, title needs a fix.

The last time I have seen an utterly boring Interlagos Grand Prix was in 1998.
Let's hope for a good one this year.

I'll be there on friday. If there's a sunny race, then it'll be a big surprise once it's been raining too much lately, like days after days raining. Right now it is raining heavily and many teams are already working in the pits at Interlagos, Ferrari as always faster than anyother team.

Ah, No

Autosport wrote:
Preparations for the event have intensified over the weekend, with the packing crates unloaded in the pitlane, daily road sweeping taking place on the track surface and other essential tasks such as kerb-painting and taking care of the run-off areas.

Not to be outdone, the weather wants to play a part in deciding the championship again, just like it did last year.

Major South American sporting events have already been influenced by heavy rains in the last few days - as anyone who saw the recent world cup soccer qualifier between Argentina and Peru can relate to, when a major storm exploded over Buenos Aires on Saturday.

That area of wet weather is making a move north, affecting parts of Brazil today, with more showery outbreaks likely towards the weekend.

The current forecast for the grand prix points to showers and longer spells of rain on Friday and Saturday. Precise timing is almost impossible to predict at this stage, but it is reasonable to expect showers on the first two days of track action.

Saturday currently has the worst forecast of the three days, with heavy showers expected, before the rain reduces to a slight risk of light showers for the track action on Sunday.

Temperatures in Sao Paulo have been unseasonal lately and this is set to continue into the weekend, as air temps struggle to make it over the 20 degree mark on all three days.

The forecast today merely offers a pointer for the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend. Given the unsettled conditions, we will take another detailed look at the prospects on Wednesday when further calculation of the forecast models may offer a more certain picture, closer to the event.

Ow please, Button is once again lucky with one of his competitors who is potentially faster than him being sidelined by an injury.

But still, we can fill a top 8 in the race easily, not including Jenson...

Which will end being no rain at all during the weekend.
