It's one of those where it is just fiddly to drive and offers no satisfaction. It's like the second Lesmo.

The classic Tilke corner.

So the rule of causing a red flag and you are out has been changed?

Is it me, or does one of the Ferrari front jack men look like John Elkann the CEO?

Has there ever been such a rule? This year in F2 you lose your best time if you cause a red flag. Then again, race director might wait to allow a car to continue, so it's not always driver's fault if there's a red flag.

I know it's a rule in Indycar, but not sure about F1

Imo....
I love the corner, love the high speed and on the edge feeling. Always a thrill to watch the onboards. Gravel just making it even more challenging now.

Yeah, the video game generation is so used to driving full throttle over the astro turf they forget a mistake can be punished in F1 these days. And not by "track limits - lap deleted" crap.

So this is the wording in the regs.

“any driver whose car stops on the track during the qualifying session or the sprint qualifying session shootout will not be permitted to take any further part in that session”. Annnnndddddd in pure FIA dumbshittery, stopping the car is not defined. Sainz's car stopped, for quite a while, caused a red flag because of a crash, but could eventually drive away. That action is not defined in the regs. Seems like it is captain obvious material. But apparently not.

Why am I not surprised.

Ah, he used to race A1GP. I always remember a lame joke about his name "A boy comes home from a date sad, his friend asks him what's wrong, and he says he he only got a kiss on the cheak from his date, but instead he was Ho-Pin Tung"

Aston have protested the results based on this regulation.

But did he stop "on the track"? Do the regs say what the track is? If the track is between the white lines, the car didn't stop there.

I mean cars technically stop on track in qualifying all the time and no one bats an eyelid - cars spinning and rejoining, or stopping in escape roads on street tracks and reversing back on to the track etc. The only difference here is that the red flag was brought out, but seeing as that isn't mentioned in the regs at all they've got no reason to penalise Sainz. But it's the FIA so watch them do it anyway

Also I like the last corner. If you want a truly terrible last corner Long Beach is on this weekend *beats dead horse*

That rule doesn't mention anything about causing the session to be halted. Is the issue here that the driver in question caused the session to be stopped, then continued, or the fact that the car itself was stopped?

I can't see Aston Martin getting anywhere with this protest.

I am also wondering if Hamilton will be put on "gardening leave" before the season is over. It's not a case of him losing his ability, he is just not interested in driving the Mercedes anymore.
