can't they just put an airscoop on the halo and connect it with a tube to the helmet? like indycar uses with the aeroscreen.

Funnily enough Martin Brundle is one of those people which has really surprised me. I'm really shocked by that - usually he's the voice of reason but this time he has gone full boomer.

Arguments are being made that they are athletes being pushed to the limit, and beyond. But in things like ultra marathons or ironman events, none of them are piloting vehicles full of fuel capable of 330km/h and pulling 5G fifteen times in 90 seconds. They pass out, they hit the ground, not slam into a wall at a speed the human body cannot survive.

Saying that, the video of Stroll that was posted, don't think that's him passing out on the straight, thing he's just stretching or moving around. Pure speculation, but his fingers are still twitching and people when they pass out are usually doing something strenuous, not resting, which is what the drivers essentially do on straights, they're not under load.

Yeah, the video doesn't show much. There's a drop of the right hand too which could be him nodding off or scratching his leg. Reminds me of those fairground slingshot videos, where people go from screaming to passing out to screaming in a couple of seconds.

I'm a bit mixed on this.

We have acts of heroism such as Senna 91, Mansell 84, other hellish conditions safety-wise (Barcelona 96, Spa 98, Fuji 08).... and they're all heavily used as promotional material and to build the lore of F1. Singapore is touted as the most grueling race, and it's all because physical difficulty. These races are what you point to when some drunk clueless bloke tells you that motorsports are not a "sport".

So, we can't have that cake and eat it too. There are bound to be occasions where that is borderline with the limit, and require some small adjustment. This GP however is far from a Texas CART race where we got close to the human limits, most drivers overcame it, so not that big a drama.

I would be happy if this was a serious enough reason to get rid of Qatar GP for good, but alas, they'll find a solution and come back here at least until 2032.
On the contrary, all this drama is good for Qatar GP, as now people will always remember it "the one GP that was so tough drivers were passing out" and it will be included in all highlights of Formula 1 YouTube channel from now on. Sigh.
