So apparently track changes are possible mid-weekend. I know this is a much smaller change than the proposed chicane at Indy, but I wonder how the course of F1 in the US would have changed had they been this sensible in 2005

Wasn't it the teams that rejected the chicane in 2005?

The reasoning was that one tyre manufacturer had issues and the other didn't. Which also happened to be one Ferrari were on and they were at the height of the Ferrari International Assistance days.

I thought it was Mosley and Ferrari, but it's been a while since I've read about it.

It was mainly Ferrari saying no, Mosely wasn't even there but they had to get him on the phone to back them up eventually

Paul Stoddart's sweary rant is pretty famous but in it he makes it clear it was all down to the objections of one team and even he didn't want to be out there, but if he didn't get some points vs Jordan that year they'd lose a huge amount of money and Jordan reneged on a deal between the two of them to not pull out as well

This is F1's worst track

No great corners, no picturesque scenery, track limits every 30 seconds and they can't make tyres that work here

*sigh* I wish they'd built the street track

Thing is with proper grass and gravel runoff, most of these would just throw up a bit of dust and not actually cost them all that much.

Hamilton's first deletion was like an inch over the line with the front wheel.

Wow. Struggling to think of a bigger mid-season turnaround than what McLaren have managed this season
