It doesn't look like we have a battle for any championship right now. However, the battle for the 2nd place will be interesting.

At the constructors', Mercedes is looming while Ferrari will try to make this season look a bit less embarrasing. Meanwhile, any of the 5 drivers could clinch the other 2nd place.

Ferrari have started to become a meme of themselves now. It's quite laughable how they manage to find new ways to completely gimp their drivers' races. They took a car capable of delivering a 1-2 from P2/P3 to P4/P6 while handing their chief rival the win. Verstappen had one hand firmly on the WDC trophy before this race, well he's got all but one finger on it now thanks to those clowns in red.

I stopped caring about the championship. It's fine not to have a close points battle this year, because very race is entertaining, and has its own storyline with surprise performances (good or bad).

thankfully we didn't needed rain for this one but some drivers would find that very pleasing thank you very much (not Ferrari obviously)

Oh and Verstappen beat Ferrari coming from P10 and after spinning. It's worth remembering.

Yeah surely he ruined his tyres at least a bit there and still was able to close the gap again and drive away

Need the Scooby Doo meme where they pull off the mask, and instead of Ferrari it's really old man Manardi...

It feels like Ferrari are still being shadow-punished by the FIA for running an illegal engine in 2018/9

"Sure, we won't ban you, but we'll promte your team boss to the FIA operations and you can have some idiots from the circus to run your race strategy instead, ensuring that even if you make a resonably competittive car, you'll throw it all away"

Charles better hope Lewis retires in the next few years because he's not winning a championship with these guys and there's no-where else for him to go and still win

Not a bad race though, interesting what would've happened if Mercedes had a front row to themselves (as was surely on before Lewis' DRS issue, he'd been comfortably 2.tenths or so faster than George all through the weekend)

Oh well, this will end up being a worse championship than those ones where Vettel looked faster than Mercedes in the summer then Ferrari fell apart in the far east (17/18) that people now call Mercedes dominance

We're truly into the 2nd Red Bull era

I have just finished watching the race. Did not expect to say this after a race in Hungary but this was a fantastic race. It remained interesting every lap from start to finish.

How can Ferrari ruin everything so hard. They have the fastest car on Saturday, but only the 3rd fastest on Sunday, if they don´t break.

Max 80 points ahead. He can relax, sit back, finish on the podium every race and watch Ferrari fail.

Good race for Hungary. Interesting that previously Ferrari have lost races by reacting too slowly on strategy, this time they threw away Leclercs chances by reacting straight away to Verstappens stop.

Though for all those criticising going on the hards, it worked for Alpine - they were only behind Norris and the top 3 teams so couldn't have hoped for much more than that

Quote:
Asked if Ferrari had seen what Alpine's hard tyre struggles and considered not pitting to cover Verstappen, Binotto replied: "Yes, we discussed it, so it's not that [the strategy] is all written in stone.

"During the race and looking at what's going on, we have as well looked at what was happening with the other hard tyres.

"We took all considerations, we discussed what would have been best and that's the choice that we made. It certainly was not the right one today."

But Binotto stressed the bigger issue for Ferrari on Sunday was the car's lack of pace compared to what it saw on Friday, when Leclerc had set the fastest time and impressed over the long runs.

"It's important to say that we believe that the car was not working as expected," Binotto said. "We didn't have the speed we were hoping for looking back at the Friday, and the pace we had in the race conditions on Friday. So today was certainly different conditions, a lot cooler.

"But overall the speed today was not great enough, and whatever tyres we were using, I don't think we were as good as we were looking for."

What a lazy attempt at deflection. Yes of course we took how the other teams struggled with the hards into consideration, and that had absolutely no influence on our catastrophic strategy. But strategy wasn't our real problem, it's the car designers that need a whipping..."

Is Binotto being willfully ignorant or does he think this explanation will avoid the bosses holding him responsible?

He's probably just trying to hold on to his job until he manages to be put in charge of the LMP program.

No way you can screw it up that bad with strategy in a 24-hour race.

That's still less soul-destroying than there being literally no one to challenge the dominant team (on speed) at all, all year IMHO. I'm okay with having the title decided by the team who made the less mistakes, so I won't look back on this season with disappointment.

What the hell is he talking about?

Were it not for Russell's monster lap, they would have locked the front row in qualifying and during the first stint on medium tyres they matched Russell's pace (if not slightly faster) on softs.

In his best laps with those granite tyres they decided to ruin his race with, Leclerc wasn't that far off Verstappen's average pace.

This guy couldn't manage his laundry basket to save his life.
