regarding FIA wrongdoings, Mercedes should at least have the decency to aknowledge that race direction mishaps and inconsistency helped them way more than ruined their endeavours |

They should and probably will focus on seeing that it doesn´t happen again in 2022. But 2021 is behind us now. I would prefer a change in red flag rules, where you can change tyres or even damaged parts without a penalty. |

they kept the free pit stop under red because of safety, just like drivers moan about banning tire warmers well, if they cannot drive with cold tires, then they're not the best drivers in the world |

Anyone that actually has a problem with what happened in Abu Dhabi should be rooting for a change in race director responsibility and processes rather than just a change in who holds that role. I don't care if they dig up Charlie, you're fooling yourself if you think these issues didn't exist before Masi or that they go away with someone else in the same job. |

for sure. for all the issues nascar has, they typically don't change or make up rules mid-race. restricting teams from contacting the race director is a good start already. and if they want races to end under green then create definitive guidelines for that to happen, nobody likes a blue-balls finish. but the race director should be enforcing the rules established before the season begins (or at least the race), not making up new procedures at the very end of the last race of the season i don't even mind if they keep masi, as long as the rules generate more headlines in the future than he does |

What happened to Herbie Blash's role? The guy used to be Whiting's shadow in race control before. I wonder if they ever replaced his deputy role with someone qualified to backup Masi. It's just too involved of a role to handle singlehandedly. |

It's just too involved of a role to handle singlehandedly. Masi was the backup I think, there to learn everything about race control as deputy race director (plus do all the stuff Charlie couldn't do while he was at driver's meetings etc, like the F3 race and maybe F2) but Charlie's sudden death promoted him before his time It sounds like a story we've probably all heard in our day jobs, things are going well in a team, then someone unexpectedly gets a job at another company and quits, the management ask an existing team member to step up a role temporarily while they look for a new boss (while still doing their own job too, doubling the work) and because that team member does an ok job for a while, they think they don't need a boss and suddenly you've got the same or more work being done by less people It's a false equivilance too, as usually the person they gave all the extra work to gets burnt out and pissed off they aren't respecting him doing a manager's role for standard pay and looks for other work too, so they end up losing 2 people and any other team members who were overworked by them trying to save 1 manager's salary instead of just hiring a new manager and having the right amount of people in the job for the level of work coming in Masi had to step in at the last minute for Charlie, and that was a great effort considering the circumstances, but did he ever get a new number 2 underneath him? And how much have Liberty been in his ear about the DRAMA (certainly, the red flag amount has tripled in recent years if not more, the standing restarts after red flags (which tbf we'd been calling for for YEARS on this forum ) restart lines after safety cars ridiulously far down long straights leading to pile ups and further accidents, the list goes on That's something that hasn't come out in all this, I think. And it's not something they're gonna admit to in the report either. The annoying thing is, 2012 is still my and many people's favourite season and had an amazingly exciting final race and no-one even really cares to this day that it ended under SC The SC was legit, Di Resta's car had crashed on the start finish straight, that's just the way it was... If Masi had had that kinda purism attitude, none of this would've happened. |

I'm still waiting for Beyond the Grid episode with Herbie Blash. Should have plenty stories to tell. |

On a related note, I wish F1 kept posting videos from driver briefings. They did so briefly in 2017-2018 I think. Those were a fan-favourite, and hilarious at times, I wonder why they stopped doing it. |

Jolyon Palmer (in the chequered flag podcast) said the reason they stopped filming those was that drivers started to use the airtime to make jokes and boost their image. It changed the atmosphere of the meetings. |

They were enjoyable, but I think not filming them is the sensible choice. Those briefings should be an opportunity for the drivers to speak freely without hundreds of shitty clickbait articles being posted 5 minutes later |
