The FIA have taken steps to do something about porpoising...

Safety has to come first, you can't run around with the halo on and say these are the safest cars in F1 history and keep increasing the weight limit for more safety innovations year on year and then suddenly not care about putting them all on walking sticks or even wheelchairs in their later lives

It reminds me of the time when the teams force the drivers to become dangerously thin just to meet the weight limit (was that 2017, or earlier?)

The drivers living a life pain free is more important than a championship fight that's already been won by red bull anyway. Allow the changes by the 2nd half of the season and then red bull will still be winning, mark my words

There are already accelerometers fitted to every car. The FIA already has all the data they need. All that's left to do is set a limit and chuck meatballs at any car which exceeds it.

Told you it was easy.

They should measure the maximum bouncing that is allowed. If your car can stay under the limit, good job. If you go over it, you have to adjust your car until it reaches the limit. But there should not be a mandatory new rule that punishes all cars, even those who did a better job.

Basically this

of course they'll come up with a very botched solution that'll give Mercedes 10 straight wins

Obvious garbage move even if it doesn't change anything. Whenever FIA talks about "safety" these days you know they actually don't mean safety. Jules Bianchi's death has caught them on the back foot and they are still reeling from the impact of that - the idea that lack of gravel is actually a safer solution proved totally whiffed in the rainy conditions.

At least all the hoopla about sprint races is gone. Funny how nobody talks about that gem unless there comes a weekend with the sprint race and most people are surprised to realize that.

apparently Mercedes wont like the new rule.
And bad for Ferrari but good for RBR.

Congrats Max and RBR WDC and WCC of 2022

Wait I misread it I think.

So the teams that purpose too much are forced to make adjustments to their setup?

RIP Ferrari and Mercedes

more like un-balance of performance, typical in F1

Correct. On both counts. If Toto wasn't bullshitting (unlikely) about the ride height making no difference to the Mercedes, then they are going to have a job on in preparing 2 legal cars.

Sucks if it effects Ferrari, because Charles seems OK with it, but it is hilarious that Merc have complained long and loud about it and then the FIA says OK, we are looking at the cars that bounce too much and will get them to raise their ride height haha.

Careful what you wish for Toto.

Whether or not you think it benefits any one team, I don't think anyone could argue doing nothing was an option. Drivers up and down the grid have been complaining about it, not just Merc drivers, and at Baku even the Mclaren was porpoising. Who gives a fuck whatever impact it has on this already dull championship, you can't have drivers fatigued to the point of distraction in any racing series.

Exactly, I've said all along it's a safety issue and it's proven exactly this. The championship doesn't matter when it comes to the driver's health and if it's the same for everyone then, game on

What couldn't happen was everyone's "wahh wahh, it'll punish those that made a good car" attitude as you cannot rely on the teams to think of their drivers first when all that money from finishing higher up in the constructors championship was on the line
Someone like Frank Williams or Colin Chapman would've thought "Oh well, we'll bounce the fuck out of our cars to finish higher up in the championship and use the extra money to hire a new driver when the current one is in too much pain to have an F1 Career any more"

The teams must be saved from themselves sometimes

I've read that McLaren had massive porpoising in the beginning, but that they already sacrified performance by increasing the height of the car earlier in the season. The bumpy track in Baku still made it worse than expected so they struggled, but they could go faster if they lowered the car but chose not to.

Well I hope that's true, they might be ahead of the game when it comes to the higher ride height development

Max vs Lando for the WDC confirmed! :8:

actually, according to the experts it suits RBR the most and Ferrari and Mercedes will suffer. If any, they killed the season unless we get a great 2-way battle between Verstappen and Perez. But me scoring a hot date is more likely than that.

Tost confirmed that gasly will drive for alpha tauri in 2023.
So I guess ricciardo is a bit safer now.

Otmar confirmed that piastri will be in F1 in 2023 but declined to say for what team
