Nobody here has explained to me precisely what is their objection to the following plan:

- Watch qualy on Friday. The winner now gets credited pole position for the records. He's the fastest driver that weekend.

- Don't watch Saturday. Go have a walk. Enjoy life. That's what I already do for sessions that I don't care about. I don't ask for these sessions banned for safety or cost or other dishonest reasons, I know others enjoy them live.

- Catch-up with results or highlights in the evening. That's what I already do for qualys on tracks that I don't care about (most of the calendar).

- Watch the race live on Sunday.

During this whole plan, you enjoyed F1, and other people enjoyed it differently by watching Saturday. Shocker, right? They should be deprived of a race for elitist philosophical reasons about " real" F1. And that F1 is making money shouldn't be relevant, you're already earning them money by being a sucker that gets TV packs and watches F1 in the first place.

And for those who watch every single session over the week-end. You really, really prefer an FP to a competitive race? Wanting Sprint banned is selfish. You're earning nothing as an elite connaisseur of F1, but you're depriving more casual viewers from a live race and more excitement through the weekend. It's a stupid hill to die on.

F1 should be the absolute pinnacle of motorsport for me. The whole Sprint Race formula as it currently is, to me at least, is a secondary and junior category format.

If they want to have a second race then fine have a second race. Make it a proper second race, with a proper race distance (3/4 of the main race) where you have to qualify for both of them, none of this gimmicky start where you finished the previous race. That is not the pinnacle of motorsport to me.

If they adopted two full feature races and dropped some of the useless races then I would be on board with that. Not the bloody F2 format.

pretty sure sprint races were birthed out of nearly everybody in f1 fandom complaining that drivers were only racing at half throttle for most of the race distances because tires, fuel, whatever. the whole point of a sprint race is a full throttle, all-out run to the checkered flag. the only thing i might have against the sprints is wear and tear on the crews and support staff

the problem is that they cannot run sprints at full throttle because they need to do a full race in the following day so it defeats that purpose

unless they do two sprints in those mickey mouse tracks and call it a grand prix

F1 needs to realize it cant have everything.

You cant run 30+ races and full throttle but also expect them to use 3 engines for an entire season.

F1 is hypocritical. Even if they design a season that needs 4 engines in practice, they would probably rather just let people rack penalties because it gives crazy headlines like the Hamilton remontada at Brazil 2021.

The only thing missing is that he catches Covid. Probably on Sunday just before Spanish GP, which means he will miss Monaco GP next week as well.

watch him getting an engine failure on the last lap of a race he was utterly dominating and having to watch Max or Charles pass him in the last corner

Or the Hungaroring way, doing a great strategy to leap ahead on decaying tires, just to have a failure in the final lap

A trial will be made in 2 events next year, where drivers will be forced to use the hards in Q1, mediums in Q2 and softs in Q3, which also changes the tyre allocation for the weekend.

How is forcing everyone to use the same tyre considered a "shake-up"? If anything it reduces strategy and unpredictability.

Make it a random draw

Let's hope it rains during both those tries.
Why are they trying to ruin qualifying? To highlight sprint races?

Also, if it's not broken, don't fix it! Qualy has been consistently good all the past years.

Well, I guess hell has frozen over. VAG pretty much confirmed that Audi and Porsche will join F1.

As new teams or replacing current teams? In other words, will we get 24-car grid or not?

I guess they got tired of focusing on electric cars racing in tight street circuits and decided to go for the serious stuff

Instead of electric cars on tight street circuits, they have chosen part-electric cars on an increasing number of big street circuits

Seriously though, this move is out of step with the VAG corporate direction. They are moving Audi towards only electric cars, and Porsche won't be far behind. I wonder if we'll get a few years down the road and they decide to push F1 to go full electric. If not, they will end up with a weird split between full-electric for the public and outdated tech for racing. It just seems contradictory.

Yes, they've announced they're coming, likely as an engine Manufacturer (Porsche for Red Bull) and buying Mclaren, either in part or fully (Audi)

They've made statements that they don't want to invest doing it all themselves and have to wait 10 years to be competittive if they started from scratch, they want success immediately, so will invest in existing teams and not do the hard work and bring us 4 more cars in the grid

So, tbh, from my point of view, they can get fucked
