I just don’t give words the weight many people do (and you seem to), nor do I feel the need to use them, there are so many more dangerous things in the world that can harm you than words and plenty of different ways to belittle someone than resorting to racial slurs.

In my lifetime we’ve gone from real segregation and oppression, through liberation and equality and now it seems we’re going back to oppression and segregation again, when I was a kid if someone said something nasty to you, the general advice you’d get from other people would be to ignore it because, if you made a big fuss about it, you’d embolden the person to do it more, believe it or not this worked until a few years ago, now it seems “offence” changes daily in its definition and what you say today could be tomorrow’s next racist buzzword.

Not only that, it’s now customary to show the world how upset it makes you and for others to get offended and then people wonder why the words get used more and more and we seem to be going backwards in society rather than forwards….

Also there is cultural differences, I guess it’s a bit like fag, in the UK it is a nickname for cigarettes that some of us have used for 50+ year, it’s going to be very difficult to stop people of my generation using it, and generally here, it’s not considered offensive in general (some people did use it as a slur against gay people in the 80’s but the term didn’t catch on because, surprise surprise, the Gay community didn’t make a big fuss about it and people stopped using the term as it wasn’t having the desired effect), however in America it’s a word that is banned from TV because it’s considered a transphobic slur and so offensive.

So they don' hear people say "Can I bum a fag off you"?. Coming from country Australia that was a phrase I heard a lot.

if words didn't denote cultural ideologies which have systemic repercussions then i guess they'd be harmless

Cos it wouldn’t have had the same impact last year, UK was looking at Lockdown 4, Omicron was ripping through society, Christmas was about to be cancelled etc.

holding news to make a fuss later on isn't a practice of bad and lazy journalism?

Didn´t he say it right after the Abu Dhabi GP, which was already controversial enough?

yeah but you know, is the British GP weekend, and he's the father of Max's girlfriend, so that's why Max got quite booed after qualifying

in the uk "fag" is a distinct word for cigarettes. elsewhere "fag" is short for "faggot" - a hateful way to refer to homosexual men

Max is booed in Silverstone because he is the one that is beating fan favourite Hamilton. Happened last year as well.
Hamilton is booed everywhere else, because he´s Hamilton :p

Haven't seen any official statement. Anyway, what an utter disgrace.
There are so many races that should never have been added to the calendar in the first place: Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Bahrain, China, Azerbaijan. Remove those authoritarian regimes and there will be space for Spa, Mugello, Portimao, Hockenheim, Nürburgring and Magny-Cours.

So Spa puts in all that work to modernize Eau Rouge only to get the boot. This time there is no Bernie to take it away, dangle a few carrots and then bring it back. When Miami or Las Vegas eventually falls through it might come back, but not for a while.

But by then I'm sure some other authoritarian oil regime will pop up and want a race.

Don't think I'll be renewing my subscription to the broadcasters of F1 in my country then.
