sad for Haas, they were doing so well until those pit stops.

-

Not surprised one bit that ESPN dropped the ball for their TV coverage. So many ad breaks at ill-placed times, oh, and that pre-race show (not originally planned until this week) that was showing either still cameras around the track (without sound) or a rerun of ESPN The Magazine's 20th anniversary special for the first 24 minutes too. Sky comms crew is alright when we did get to hear them though.

I don't see how losing places due to a VSC is really any different to drivers losing spots due to a normal SC or Red Flag.

It's also not as if Lewis is the 1st driver to have lost places due to a VSC, He may be the 1st to have lost the lead but pretty sure others have lost places under a VSC since it was introduced.

It's a part of the sport, A part of the strategy & just like a full SC or Red Flag sometimes it benefits you & sometimes it cost's you. Today Lewis lost out & Vettel gained, Next time it may well go the other way.

Yeh i know that, its normal to me. Sometimes luck is with you sometimes it isnt, its racing...

Funny that vsc caused this surprise result. Introduced to prevent this, a real SC would have seen Hamilton keep the lead probably. Race was pretty boring, as expected with these cars. Still can't understand why they went this way with the aero rules. The wheel to wheel racing was much better before from 2010 to 2016, just faster lap times don't make a race good. And an ultrasoft Tyre going to half race distance, what a joke. Why didn't they use the hypersofts here? Wasn't it the plan to have a minimum of 2 stops at every race this year? Bahrein should be better I hope, better chances to overtake there. And what was so revolutionary about the race coverage, didn't Sean bratches say it would be completely different this year? More cinematic or something like that. All I saw was new graphics that often failed

So is it safe to say Honda were in fact the problem after all, given Alonso holding off marvelous Max for 5th while one Sauber finished 13th and the other blew up?

People can blame Honda for a lot of things but blaming them for Sauber's performance is a bit harsh. :beard:

Did Williams do something to upset the tv director? Only onboard image of Sirotkin standing still, no replays or trackview images. And I completely forgot about the second Williams until I checked the final results and noticed Stroll had been in the race as well today.

Heh yes but after McLaren's pre-season issues, there was a lot of speculation that Sauber would turn it around with Honda while McLaren would continue to suck and it would prove McLaren were the problem all along.

Alfa Romeo Sauber-Honda? Did I miss an engine partner switch between testing and Australia?

The VSC and SC are entirely different. Under the VSC each driver is supposed to circulate at roughly the same lap pace, with the effect of nobody being disadvantaged or gaining an advantage.

What happened today was that Vettel effectively turned an 11 second deficit to Lewis into a lead. Under SC that would be understandable. And when even the commentators appear confused and question the legitimacy of what happened with Vettel, you know it makes zero sense.

And the headline will read...

“Lewis’ pole position lock-out”

They'd cut to a commercial in the middle of a commentator's sentence, then come back later in the middle of another sentence, and you wouldn't get any kind of help on catching up on whatever we might have missed. The race was bad enough, but the commercial breaks made it even harder to watch.

they're now pretty much the most irrelevant team in the grid. If they keep this form Martini will take their sponsorship even before august

Add me to the list of people disappointed by ESPN. You can't do a pure simulcast without having at least 1 person in a studio somewhere to update us about what we missed during the ads. FOX does that with Varsha and co during the WEC races and while not perfect it is 10x better than what we got today. :slaphead:
