Vettel for a flawless race.

Bottas for showing good pace and proving he can be as much of a challenge to Hamilton as Rosberg was.

Giovinazzi for showing good pace after racing the track for the first time in FP3. As fast, if not faster than teammate Ericcson. Kept his marks, didn't pulled the usual Melbourne rookie antics we've seen through the years.

1. Ferrari for improving their car so that Vettel could just about keep up with Hamilton, and for having a better strategy then Mercedes.

2. Giovinazzi for a clean first race

3. Vettel

Giovinazzi's pace and maturity was awkward for Ericsson.

Gio: A great debut at incredibly short notice. Made Ericsson look like the rookie.

Alonso: I think Melbourne flatters the McLaren; it certainly has in the past (2015, I'm looking at you). Regardless, a great drive and a shame (but not a surprise) he retired.

Vettel: A measured and flawless drive, fully deserved win.

I don't want to be the wise guy here but do you mean 2014 with the double podium-finish (after DSQ for Ricciardo)?

Don't wanna sound pesky or anything, but what exactly did Ericsson do wrong to look like a rookie? I honestly missed it.

From what I saw, he outqualified Giovinazzi(and would have anyway even if Gio didn't make the mistake on the hairpin, as Ericsson had faster sector times) and was a victim of a daft manoeuvre by Magnussen.

I agree he's not world class, just saying I didn't see anything too bad from him, this time

Ericsson did nothing wrong in the race really, he got shafted on lap 1, and recovered due to a damaged car. But it was in qualifying, when he barely beat Gio, that was not good enough.

It wasn't a huge margin but 2 tenths is quite decent. Also worth noting that Gio had experience on the car from the testings.

Btw, will Wehrlein return in China? I guess yes but, if not, good for Giovinazzi

According to Monisha, Wherlein will (may?) be fit enough to be able to compete the full weekend.
