I loved when V8 Supercars wasn't on paying TV. I could watch a lot of good things on youtube. When they hide behind a paywall, they also cut the exposure on a lot of other fronts.

Anyway, we're lucky to still have F1 on free tv, and that amazingly still makes a ton of money for Globo. And any adds that they run are only before and after the race. Flag to Flag coverage. I just started to hate them that on the alternative paid tv airing, they started to put the same commentators from the free tv broadcast. And then I realized how much I hated to be obliged to hear them. As they treat the race as a childhood tv show. Making everything over the top, and treating the viewer as a dumbass. And putting the ambient sound very low. All kinds of bad stuff. No way I'm waking up 9am on a sunday to have that. F1 Torrents all the way.

Why exactly do people think that it should be free to watch F1?

We've been over this shit before.

If F1 wants to maintain fans and generate new fans it should be available for people to find.

I'm a divorced dad with not enough spare money to afford (and justify) a subscription to a channel that broadcasts F1.
For now I can still watch on German RTL but once that stops I have no option anymore to watch.

Right now my daughter (6) comes sit with me whenever there is F1 and she is with me. Without any option to watch for free, there is zero chance for her to stay into F1.
And I am not the only one in this situation so F1 is missing out on loads of potential new fans. And eventually the current crop of fans will die or walk away for various reasons.

So the reverse grid thing is definitely off the table. Thanks to Mercedes and what is already turning into the Mercedes B-team, Racing Point.
Argument of Mercedes: Bolt doesn't start 5 meters behind the rest either. An unlucky comparison because in F1, you DO start 5 meters after the car in front of you. Or actually 8 meters. To compare with Bolt and giving everyone the same chance, you need a grid where all 20 cars are lined up next to each other. And if athletics had qualifications F1 style, you would see a 100 meter sprint where Bolt start ahead of the others, making it even easier for him to win.

Stupid Mercedes.

That's actually a great idea, F1 should start doing landrush starts:

Surely there's enough room on some of the Tilke tracks

I tried it last year, but it felt a bit unstable, the one I got at least (which is regarded as the best available in the country).

But still I had several choices to watch F1. Sky F1, Movistar F1, ESPN and the local channels.

Because it always has been, up until 2012 here in the UK, and more eyes on screen=more sponsors=more money in the sport

Then they changed the model to Pay TV and the money hasn't exactly been distributed fairly between the teams, has it?

Well the Pay TV model clearly works as they are continuing with it. Enough people are currently paying for it, so they won't change it until enough people stop paying for it.

The amount they ask for really isn't that much, plus the Sky coverage in the UK is pretty good considering you also get F2/F3 and IndyCar in the same package.

thats an objective opinion.

For one person $10/month is spare change and for another person its a luxury they cannot afford.
I really wonder how little real life experience people have for thinking its not much.

AMuS suggesting F1 are exploring potential races in Mugello, Imola, Hockenheim, Indy and a second race in Sochi. Austin, Montreal Mexico City and Interlagos are pretty much out of the question so Indy may be the last available option for a race in the Americas. Nothing in the Far East so the only Asian races will be in the Middle East

IndyCar Harvest GP on the road course is Oct. 3rd. Lets make it a double header with F1 in the morning (which is normal European time) and IndyCars in the afternoon!

Well the amount they ask in Belgium is a lot. It's €20 (£18)/month and it is terrible coverage, with commentators that are average and no extras. It might be worth it if you also watch Premier League Soccer, which is included in the same package. But for only F1 that's way too expensive.

Also I don't want F1 to be available for free because I don't want to pay (I pay if I need too), but because F1 teams and races live of their sponsors, and sponsors need a big audience. Please don't think the same number of people watch it after a paywall compared to on a public channel.

If F1 goes to Sochi twice, then F1 does not know what F1 should be anymore.

I wouldn't mind Mugello though.

pretty sure F1 wouldn't want that as IndyCars will provide a great show and make F1 look like the most boring thing in the world

I hope there's some truth to these rumours. It would be great to see one or two additions to the calendar that we weren't expecting.

Yeah no doubt. I'm wondering what will happen if key personnel start to come down with symptoms right before a session. Even rapid testing would take a bit of time. With fixed session times, I'm just wondering how disruptive that would be for teams if key people coming down with symptoms have to be isolated before they can be tested. It could be a mess.
