Back on the safety car point: Just watching Australia 09. Nakajima crashes when most of the field except button has made their first pit stops, Charlie blatantly waits until Jenson pits and comes out before he deploys the SC, despite the williams sitting in harms way around the blind corners of turn 4/5 (This results in a much longer SC period than normal too as the SC has to wait almost a full lap of waving through the field before Jenson is able to catch it up) More on this as the live stream continues through 2009+ |

Engineering firms, no matter how shiny their name is, don't always make the best decisions to achieve the highest competitiveness and quality goals. Sometimes it's just as simple as that. I've seen execs and managers thinking that real life testing is too expensive, that whichever design stage (or lab testing) they've reached is good enough, and that the rest can/will be sorted out easily as the product rolls out. You'd be surprised how often it's all about saving the quick buck today, and missing out on the big picture and huge future advantage that could be gained from the simple solutions you're suggesting. |

Don't forget that half staff you need is enough when you pay them half of the average. It's just lack of ambition and motivation that keeps the team down. Then off you go with your lease BMW for what ever meeting you have about boosting the corporation image and your own shield in the process. The glass is always half empty because it's half filled with dimwits working for the company. Wish how there was less of them in there. Then I could afford a Porsche.

New wet start rules are... pointless. The cars will still follow the SC until it's 'safe', then will grid up for a standing start. On wets. On a track that is probably dry. With a 10 sec penalty for following the SC in for inters. Oh, and cars starting from the pit lane can follow the train around, before returning to the pit lane for the start. Also, some BS about the first four laps counting as formation laps or something. |

On one hand I'd applaud non-championship races to test ideas but on the other hand. Will it do any difference however? Will teams be willing to do those? Already a lot of races so why participate in a useless race? |

Yeah, they make long red flag periods even more probable. Previously it was possibly to start in relatively poor conditions behind the SC, but now they're eager to wait longer for better conditions to allow standing start. For example, I don't think they would have had a standing start in conditions like Brazil last year, instead, they would have waited the conditions to improve for hours. Rule #1: More racing, less waiting. |
