That 2009 Williams spec wing is horrible :yuk: Looks like a cheap Formula 3 wing or something like that. Well, we only saw the new wing. I think we have to wait until we see the whole 2009 car to judge about it :)

Really hope Sato will impress tomorrow! God,, I really want him back in Formula One

Car looks super awesome until you hit the rear wing....

They could have designed the regs to have the same effect without making it looks so fucked up and out of proportion.

Can somebody please post the article about 2009 cars from the mag?
Thanks in advance! ;)

That car does look good on the whole. Shame about the rear wing, but I'm all for the wider cars, the slicks, the massive reduction in aero and stupid winglets all over the place. I have heard Moseley going on about the possibility of a single engine manufacturer in F1, which is a frankly ridiculous idea in my opinion, but I do like the proposed changes to the cars apart from that.

+1 on that. One engine manufacturer would be ridiculous indeed, but I don't think that will happen soon.

Remember that the cars could have looked even worse if the width had been 2000mm instead of the current 1800mm. The proportions would be even more off then.

May as well have a massive rear wing back in the 60's/70's

It's not just a case of lowering downforce, though. They've got to alter the rear wings in some way because even with a Monza rear wing you'll still not have much overtaking - look how much overtaking actually happens there normally

The main changes mentioned in Gary Anderson's article

- Front wing lowered and extended, making the wing the same width as the car, and a driver adjustable section

- Bargeboards banned

- Winglets and assorted aero devices banned

- The top edge of the rear wing raised to become level with the top of the engine cover, reduced in width, and increased in section height, meaning more of a gap between the 2 wings, allowing more airflow

- Diffuser slightly longer and higher, and moved further back, making it less powerful

- Slick tyres instead of grooved slicks

- KERS can be used

The downforce levels will be such that it'll be like driving a current car without a front wing

If you people just want to whinge about the changes then quit whinging about the lack of overtaking

It's only a 2009 spec rear wing they are testing. The rest of the car is the one we see this year. Next years cars wiill have lower and wider front wing as well. So together with no winglets and this rear wing I think the cars will look great.
At least they will look different.
In a German motorsport magazine there was an exclusive CAD drawing of a 2009 RedBull. And it looked awesome.

Does anyone else think it looks like the original A1GP car? Especially at the rear...

That rear wing looks horrible. I think even F3 cars have bigger wings...

F1 should LOOK better, bigger, faster, more modern than any other open wheeler series...
