He still hasn't cottoned onto the idea of making the points differential between first and second bigger again, has he? I mean, we all clocked that... er... four years ago? Five?

Yeah but knowing how Max and Bernie work, it's probably still a bargaining tool to try and get more points for a win. I doubt they think they're going to go all the way with that one

"Forget the word 'medals'"

I guess the people have spoken. :flag:

I think what Bernie means is that bit was taken out of context, and they were never going to offer physical medals

I guess it has to do with the poll at F1.com, we never got the results (so far) but I think it didn't favor Bernie's idea.

I was watching the 1990 Hungarian Grand Prix last night, and it seems that back at that time Bernie was floating the medal system too as Murray mentioned it in passing.

Interestingly, back then Bernie obviously noticed Nelson Piquet's upturn in form and suggested that drivers' wages should be determined by how well they do. Of course that would be a bit harsh on the Force India drivers etc nowadays and it would be completely unworkable, but if there was ever anything to make a driver want to pass the guy ahead of him then a few more dollars in the back pocket would be it!

That would be the best, I think.
I would also add 1 point for Pole Position, 1 point for Fastest Lap and 1 point for most laps in the lead.
So you could score 15 points on one weekend.

Just read that Bernie thinks that the public shouldn't decide over the points system, or about any decision for that matter. He believes these choices should be made by him and the teams.

Just shows once again what kind of person he is. Though the choices of the poll on F1.com were too limited, I thought it was a good move by the FIA.

But what question was he asked. Perhaps he's not saying don't listen to the fans, but perhaps if 60% say get rid of rear wings, it doesn't mean that they should go ahead and just do it.

What about having a pole, fastest lap and most laps led getting one point each.

Only an additional point for pole is a good idea IMO. :)

I agree on that, but this was what he said:

"We don't want to ask the public what they think because, if we do we would have to ask the public about almost every little thing that is decided on," the 78-year-old billionaire said.

All i think needs to change with the current points system is 2nd place, 7 points instead of 8 :) simple an effective. Really not sure about additional points, i think pole should be rewarded as well but i guess that comes with starting at the front lol... Maybe a point for pole would be fair in an achievment sence, could see some mixed up grids too from people gunning for that point...

Exactly. If they simply ban the fuel rule in Q3 and give a point for pole then Saturdays will be way more interesting and the fight for pole will be much better.

in my opinion they should ban qualifying as we know it today and hold qualifying-races on saturday in the reverse order of the championship standings. Epic 8)

The last 3 championships have gone to the final race and the last 2 have been decided by a point, so what's wrong with the points the way they are??

Finally, something sensible from you.

Exactly. There is nothing wrong with it. Don't fix what isn't broken.

That's not what championships should be about, it should merely be a nice bonus if things go down to the wire like that (even if it takes blatant FIA manipulation to achieve it).
