They do use a form of SAFER barrier at Barcelona (that awful chicane) and all around Abu Dhabi.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Thought they used the same barriers at Abu Dhabi as they do here?

I've supported Alguersuari since he came into F1, but I have to admit maybe he needs to be dropped soon. No pace this year, poor racecraft and now this. Conversely, Buemi has upped it this year

This barrier was good. A tyrewall would have torn that car apart

It might be a mix.

But the FIA are aware (and do employ) the technology.

Vettel made a few mistakes on his lap as well. Might even have touched the 1.12s had he nailed it.

SAFER barrier wouldn't have been any different in this case.

They need to put Ricciardo in that car asap.

I think it would, if used well. You'll never have a safe place there if the wall is fucking perpendicular to the way the cars will approach.

SAFER + TecPro would probably be the right mix.

You couldn't do it there, you'll just deflect the car into an even bigger accident.

I'm sure the FIA will look at it, but what can they do?

They can't move the barrier back, thats impossible and it would leave an open exit to the chicane
They can't bypass the chicane because that would be more dangerous and leave Tabac as a corner you approach at 190mph
Getting rid of any bumps is also going to be nigh on impossible on a street circuit.

Its a cause for concern because this has happened four times this weekend - Liuzzi, Petrov, Rosberg and Perez.

So the FIA ban the DRS in the tunnel for safety. We still end up having a massive crash.

Now imagine if both Perez and Rosberg were with their DRS active when they crashed.

That's impossible as DRS deactivates once on the brakes.

True but the speed that they carry will be higher, making it harder to stop.

Heck yeah, GPL style. Whoever can go past that in full throttle without crashing gets a point.

You saw what happened to Grosjean a couple of years ago.

If they went at Tabac at 180+ you'd have people clearing the paddock and landing on the start gantry.

Actually, had they had DRS, they'd need to brake earlier and this might have braked before the bump, alleviating the problem.

I guess they'll have to put gravel there, then.
