Lewis is supposedly going with #44, according to Toto Wolff.

So with Bottas going for 77 and Lewis 44, I'm now wondering what, with who and when the largest number was last actively used in F1. Anybody know? I'm guessing it's likely to be either 1989 or 1990, but will need to do some research.

according to wikipedia First Racing used #42 in 1989 but only attended 1 race and never raced.

AGS ran 40 and 41 that season

1990 highest number is 39 used by Life Racing.
Not sure if there are other seasons where someone used higher numbers

Just been looking on wiki and found the same things. The highest number to last race was 40 at the 1989 French GP, the AGS of Gabriele Tarquini, who retired.

I guess anything above 40 would indeed be a first.

If anyone uses #13, I think it would only be the second ever time to be used.

That's a great find, thank you. Although according to the event results Lombardi failed to qualify.

Just done some further research - Rupert Keegan used #50 and finished 9th at the 1980 US GP but just beating that is Kazuyoshi Hoshino who used #52 (and his team mate in #51) at the 1977 Japanese GP and finished 11th.

All those really high numbers used in a single GP in '52. That's quite interesting.

1952 wasn't the that they raced with F2 regulations? maybe those high numbers have something to do with it

Got a couple questions;

When are the teams releasing the cars? Don't they usually announce the release dates towards the end of December? Has to be relatively soon as testing begins in a month.

Does McLaren have another date set to release their title sponsor for 2014?

They normally release them late January - March.

The cars we see testing, the launch cars and the cars that turn up at Melbourne are hardly ever the same.

It doesn't. It had to do with the support races if memory serves me right 1xx were used by cars for the WDC race, 2xx for the sportscar race etc.

There have been no formal announcements yet. It is unusual, in 2012 there were two dates firmed up by now.

McLaren usually has a launch before testing, but I guess most teams will unveil Monday/Tuesday in Jerez.

Sky Germany's reporter says that Vettel has chosen #11.

Maldonado has apparently chosen #3 or #18, Magnussen #20.
