The teams will have mega computing power connected to the simulator, I'm not sure the physics engine takes advantage of that but it seems logical it will - if that's the case then you couldn't run it in your PC at home as it won't be able to calculate the physics in real time.

Monte is correct. The amount of $$ that goes into these facilities is substantial and this (along with the windtunnel) is the foundation of development. If testing is banned in an attempt to reduce costs, then so should these simulators.

Except he doesn't want them both to be banned, he wants his advantage back through unlimited testing, the same way he wanted his advantages back through 3 car teams and restricting aero development.

I almost want him to get his way because Red Bull will outspend him 3 to 1 and grind him into the dirt.

Oh I agree with you RtN, it is me saying both should be banned (both cost as much as each other, just different types of cost). Monte's logic about cost containment is true though, perhaps simulators should be banned and on-track testing be opened up again?

It might end up being cheaper for the teams that don't have 24/7 access to a racetrack, and so have to plan tests well in advance.

Ferrari, with 24/7 access to a racetrack, would end up spending more on testing than they are on the simulator.

Which is the whole point from Ferrari's perspective.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

So for testing have the teams ever lobbied the FIA to subsidize group sanctioned tests? For example have 4 in season tests and the FIA gives the teams $100,000 for each test to help off set some of the costs. In order to get the money the teams have to actually turn up and test. Seems pretty easy to me.

If Red Bull moved the factory to the Red Bull Ring you could bet the first team to moan would be Ferrari.

Red Bull could just use the Milton Keynes ring road.

In all honesty, if Montezemelo gets his way then I expect Red Bull to buy Bedford Autodrome from Palmer.

Can't see that happening. The roads are already clogged up with wannabe racers in Citroen Saxos and Seat Leons.

And yet a lot of people in the mid-late 90s said Ferrari's reliance solely on their test track was the exact reason they were underachieving because it didn't have that much relevance to the F1 calender at the time.

But I dunno how much they've upgraded it since then tbh

Well they tested there 24x7x365 in the late-90's through to the testing ban in the 2000's and that did them a lot of good.

24 hours a day
7 days a week
365 days a year

Not sure where the confusion is?

It's the x Kals, you're implying that they tested 7x365 instead of 7x52 weeksin the year ;)

24x7x365 is an incredibly common term. 24x7x52 isn't. I'm stumped with the fact that people are being pedantic on minor things.

Argh!!! We do need F1 back.
