Well I could always link the sources which Wikipedia uses, but I'd consider Wikipedia a much better source of facts than Greenpeace, tbh. :p

I completely disagree. His text reeks of bigotry. He says (or quotes someone saying) that F1 is a recreational activity blablabla and should not be used for political statements. Then where the hell is the difference between this Greenpeace protest and the sponsor logos on the cars and the drivers thanking their sponsors? At least one of them has noble motives and wants people to become aware of what these corporations really do behind their glossy marketing agendas. And of course the people that make you aware of them get ripped to shreds.

Ignorance is bliss...

Pure motives are worthless if they are put into action in stupid ways.

Quote:
According to Roger Bate, a libertarian critic of Greenpeace, the organization's campaign to shut down the last major DDT factory in the world located in Cochin, India, would make the eradication of malaria more difficult for poorer countries.

Quote:
Greenpeace gave Nintendo a score of 0.3 / 10 based on the fact that Greenpeace has almost no information on the company, which, by Greenpeace's grading system, automatically results in a zero for the affected categories.

Quote:
It was alleged that Greenpeace had no factual evidence, instead relying on unsubstantiated official company information for the report in order to garner publicity, as well as political and monetary support.

All that from one wee bit of Wikipedia. So yeah they might think they have good motives, but in reality they are no different to other corporations and organisations. They are driven by money and will lie, cheat and steal to get what they want. If you think they're somehow different because they call themselves Greenpeace, then well done - you fell for the bullshit.

And if you want to discuss bigitory, how about that awful video greenpeace posted, conveniently ignoring how much of a failure that protest actually was?

Of course, no organization is perfect, you ll find a lot of flaws and bigitory. But you shouldnt forget about what Greenpceace did for the environmental movement though.

I still wonder why not protest on Abu Dhabi GP in an epic security breach and effectively ban that one

Because that one is not sponsored by Shell...

The debate is whether we should go all the way to the Arctic / Amazon forest / shale gas... to dig out every last drop and burn it into the atmosphere, worsening the climate and pollution issues, or leave those, reduce consumption and start looking at alternatives right now to prepare for the after-oil. Which, like it or not, is coming, and we will live to see it.

The problem is, organizations like Greenpeace frame these arguments into a "fight the power" type manner, e.g. The Problem is simply Evil Corporations conspiring to drill into the arctic and destroy cute animals for no reason whatsoever. They seem to forget that oil *is* in demand for everyday things like "driving", as well as for things like "fertilizer" and "plastics" and many other chemicals. There is very little cheap oil in friendly political zones any more, hence why oil companies are forced to frack, drill in the Arctic, etc.

So we need solutions, not problem statements. Recall that in recent history some alternatives that have been tried have not worked out as well as intended (see: ethanol). The answer to life after oil is going to be more complicated than anything Greenpeace envisions.

Don't get me wrong, the knee jerk anti-environmentalism that you see in some quarters does nothing, either. I just think the FIA ironically has the potential to practically do more for this issue than Greenpeace ever will, with its sanctioning of Formula E.

F1 organisers tried to hurt me – Greenpeace ‘Julia’

Aug.27 (GMM/Inautonews.com) The Greenpeace activist who disrupted the podium ceremony at Spa on Sunday has accused race officials of trying to hurt her.

Identified only as 23-year-old ‘Julia F’ by the German newspaper Bild, the activist was abseiling onto the podium after the Belgian grand prix while David Coulthard was interviewing winner Sebastian Vettel.

“We are a bit confused down here because the crowd is booing and cheering and booing and we don’t understand why,” Vettel told Coulthard.

Coulthard responded: “We’re not going to highlight why that is at the moment.”

Some had expected the FIA to launch an investigation or possibly penalise the race organiser, but so far the Jean Todt-led governing body has been silent.

‘Julia’, however, has accused race organisers of heavy-handed tactics.

“They tried to cut my rope,” Bild, revealing that Julia is from Switzerland, quoted her as saying.

“I would have fallen five metres. And in my arrest, they put a boot to my face,” she added.

they'd better shoved a boot up her ass. Bitch.

She was illegally trespassing. Also, she's wrongly claiming the organisers tried to hurt her. F1 doesn't arrest people - the police do. So it was the police who did that to her. More BS from Greenpeace to try and make F1 look like they came out of this worse than they actually did.
