VDG got given a grid penalty for the Hulk incident, but that might be more about ignoring blue flags for an entire lap rather then the actual contact.

Horrible to hear about the marshall.

I don't think VDG did anything wrong with Hulk. He did with Webber and blue flags, but Hulk drove over his nose.

I'd imagine that it's one of these rulings in F1 that was brought in quite honestly and has now grown a head that sees drivers having to jump out the way when the driver behind has got nowhere near getting past. It was a ruling probably brought in against the likes of Arnoux, Jarier etc, drivers who were notoriously difficult to lap.

I didn't care much for the Maldonado penalty whilst we're at it.

Wow....the BBC might want to quickly fade out Suzi Perry's last line on the BBC Forum before the Daily Mail gets hold of it and runs with "BBC Presenter in sick joke over fatal crash" headlines.

It was made before anyone knew about the accident but in light of what's happened...eeeeesh it's a bit stark...... :o

Post subject:  Re: Grand Prix du Canada 2013

that's horrible news and completely unexpected. No wonder we didn't see any replays. Why on earth was the race not stopped, no safety car thrown or we didn't even know anything about it?

I feel a mixture between sadness and anger.

RIP

edit: come to think of it, it must have happened when the car was retrieved after the race. I remember seeing an ambulance appearing on screen just prior to the podium ceremony.

I'm under the impression this happened after the race if you look at the pics.

Horrible news, RIP.

It just happened after the race, he dropped his radio under the crane and tripped up. You know what happened next...

I am sure his name will be revealed shortly after some time. RIP.

Two things: there is a flashing yellow light, and he puts in the fastest sector time (30.8 ) + lap of the race. But when looking backwards after the straight there is a yellow+red light.

Or is this the same thing like Vettel in Brazil 2012?

I missed the race live, but this morning I looked on the net for results and first thing I saw was the headline 'Marshal dies retreiving car'...for a second I thought we had a Tom Price moment again....thankfully no.

I only saw it on Sky News. For 15s or so they didn't say who it was and simply talked about 'F1 race marred by tragedy', just made me feel cold.

I really hope someone offers some help to Gutierrez. I mean, it's a terrible accident and people will say it's not his fault, but surely deep down he'll be feeling some sort of guilt...

All too easy for Vettel if the rest of the teams/drivers can't get their act together.

If Ferrari had more qlf speed and if Mercedes had more race speed, it would be thougher for Vettel imho.

what a coincidence then that RedBull (in the hands of Vettel) has qlf speed AND race speed, thus making him the fastest and most deserving.

I don't like Vettel but if he is best then he is best.

RIP Marshal, so unlucky. I was watching Sky and the commentator pointed out just moments before that he didn't like those cranes there on the track.

If you had 2 Webbers in the RedBull, you would also think that RedBull needs to get their act together.

Vettel his wins all look really easy, but how many 1-2 finishes did RedBull have this season? Or last season? Yes he has a good car, but he absolutely destroys his teammate, and I think he would still be really competitive if Raikkonen or Hamilton or whoever joined him at RedBull.

Not to mention the crane driver...

These guys do it for the love of the sport. It's awful every time someone from that close-knit group of motorsport marshals falls victim to something like this. Hopefully they honour him well

It was a strange place for Gutierrez to go off there as in the past, not many drivers have ended up into the tyre wall.

I'm sure a Sauber did the same there a couple of years ago.

Never saw a replay of it so we don't know exactly what Gutierrez did.
