I wouldn't say that, but you've got several teams who are teetering on the edge. Money isn't a guarantee of success [Toyota] but it helps. The problem is it's far harder to spend less and succeed as you have to compete. Lotus has to spend a lot of money (which they don't have) to beat Red Bull, but if they don't spend that money then they'll end up in the midfield and how is that going to attract potential investors? It's a vicious cycle that shouldn't exist, but it does.

Hulkenberg apparently turned down the offer to race for Lotus at the final 2 races after visiting the factory earlier in the week:

A surprising amount of geek points awarded to whoever included a Star Wars quote in that flyer.

So this will give McLaren a chance to do some talent spotting for managerial roles.

What a bummer for Perez, he deserved so much better from McLaren.

Seems like we're in the all time greatest silly season at the moment, since Räikkönen's move (to Ferrari) was announced. Since then we've got so many swaps in the field that it's almost hard to keep up for what's coming for 2014.

It's amazing how quickly seats can change. Only Mercedes might keep both drivers between 2013 and 2014!

It would be good to see Perez in another team; I never thought Perez-McLaren would be a match made in heaven but I don't think anyone could have seen it going so badly.

As for McLaren...it's an admission of failure. They either signed the wrong guy or didn't nurture him properly.

Exactly! Also many unpredictable changes happening and still many seats to be decided! Now there's the possibility that Kova will take a place in Lotus for 2014!

They signed the second-best guy there was available at the time. Not the worst decision in the world.

Kevin's just better.

I think they needed to make a statement that something would change after their disastrous 2013 and Perez is the fall guy. Magnussen is very good though.

Whitmarsh also confirmed Button for 2014.

Does appear to be a money thing, apparently Adam Cooper's been told that the Mexican moneys been slow coming in for both McLaren and Sauber. Won't help Perez get a drive in that case and won't help Esteban either.

and I guess Perez got tricked out a bit, as before season begun (and mclaren proved to be a fiasco) he was planning to win and get good results
